Dialogues on the "Distant Futures of Everything"
Victor Motti, the Director of the
World Futures Studies Federation, and myself (Executive Board Member and Fellow of the
WFSF) have begun a new YouTube dialogue series, highlighting my book series on
Science Fiction: The Evolutionary Mythology of the Future. We are also though discussing other writings by myself and Victor on futurist thinking, future consciousness, wisdom, and related topics. Victor has titled the dialogue series "Distant Futures of Everything." All the dialogues can be found at
Victor Motti's YouTube Channel.
Victor V. Motti is Director of the
World Futures Studies Federation (WFSF), an international writer, speaker, and foresight consultant. His article "Sources of Futures Studies from Foresight to Anticipation" appears in the
Handbook of Anticipation (2017). He also authored and published a book in the UK, titled: A Transformation Journey to Creative and Alternative Planetary Futures
.

Thus far we have discussed:
- Science, Science Fiction, Mythology, Ethics, and Religions
- Science Fiction and Alternative Futures of Education in 2030
- Science Fiction and the Future Evolution of the Conscious Mind
Our latest topic on the "Future Evolution of the Conscious Mind" is of great relevance to understanding the true breadth of science fiction, as well the issues of wisdom and future consciousness. Our latest dialogue on this topic can be found at
Future Evolution of the Conscious Mind (2).
In this dialogue we discuss the great importance of Olaf Stapledon's ideas on both human and cosmic evolution into the far distant future. I highlight Stapledon's long term futures narratives on successive forms of humanity, types of non-human intelligence in the universe, sexuality in the future, mental communion of minds, space exploration and colonization, and symbiotic relations among different types of life.
We also examine David Brin's "Uplift" ideas on the future development of non-human earthly minds, such as dolphins, chimps, and gorillas, and in general our future relationship with other forms of life on the earth.
Other topics addressed include the evolution and possible challenges of enhanced empathy versus the importance of privacy, the continued diversification of humans, future military consciousness, fluid gender identity, the technological enhancement of consciousness, ego-centric and human-centric perspectives on consciousness, and the important triad of intelligence, mental health, and ethical character in thinking about the holistic future evolution of the mind.
Other science fiction writers highlighted in the dialogue include Kim Stanley Robinson, Joe Haldeman, Poul Anderson, and Clifford Simak.
All these topics are examined in much greater depth in my book series:
Science Fiction: The Evolutionary Mythology of the Future.

How can we wisely create our future?
* * * * *
Wisdom and the Future Research Center
on Wikiversity is an evolution of the newsletter Wisdom and the Future. This site, a dual creation of Lee Beaumont and Tom Lombardo, is an evolutionary forum for contributions from writers and researchers on wisdom and the future.
Please take a look at the research center and give us your thoughts. Is the primary research question
"How can we wisely create our future?" well-formed and relevant? Do you foresee participating as a researcher?
Lee has agreed to serve as the secretary of the Center. You can always contribute (articles, essays, research, etc.) by sending emails, links, and content to Lee. But in addition, you can add content on your own. There are several advantages to registering as a
Wikiversity user and contributor. It is free and easy, and allows tracking of the various changes you make to the site. Lee can help you with this if you have any questions.
The
"News" section near the top of the page will be used to announce important new contributions to the site.
We look forward to your ideas and participation.
