2024 Has Been a Stand-Out Year
|
As 2024 draws to a close, we at Nantahala Health Foundation extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you—our partners, supporters, and community champions—who have made this a year of hope and progress.
Funding for our programs is dependent on the generosity of our community. If you have not donated this year, there's still time to make a difference in your hometown. Even better, you can save yourself the need to remember next year by establishing a monthly recurring gift of $10 or more.
Your generosity and commitment have empowered us to advance health and well-being across Western North Carolina, addressing critical needs and nurturing meaningful change in the communities we serve.
Together, we have reached milestones that were once dreams. From supporting initiatives that improve access to essential resources to fostering collaborations that uplift our neighbors, your belief in our mission fuels our work every day. This year's milestones include:
As we enter this season of reflection and celebration, we are inspired by the resilience and compassion that define our shared efforts. Looking to 2025, we are filled with hope for the opportunities ahead. With your continued partnership, we are confident in our ability to create a healthier, more equitable future for all.

From all of us at Nantahala Health Foundation, we wish you a joyous holiday season and a new year filled with peace, prosperity, and purpose. Thank you for walking alongside us on this journey of care and transformation.

We are committed to ensuring every dollar of available funding -- including those you donate today -- gets into the hands of regional teams working tirelessly to support individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Helene. A gift to Nantahala Health Foundation today means a hot meal, a roof repair, or a paid electric bill for someone in need tomorrow.
Limited funds dedicated to this grant cycle remain available for nonprofits and government entities addressing hurricane recovery efforts.
Youth + Young Adult Awards Announced
We are pleased to announce our recent community investments in support of youth and young adult health and well-being. More than $250,000 in grants were awarded to six regional organizations, all of which strive to improve health and wellness outcomes for underserved youth and young adults ages 5 – 24:
Graham County Schools, Robbinsville – Allowing them to share the success of their peer counseling program with other school districts in the region. The program pairs underperforming students with student mentors who share educational opportunities that would normally be out of reach due to socioeconomic barriers.
Hawthorn Heights, Bryson City – Allowing them to expand mental health services to their youth residents, many of whom were left waiting for services due to the limited number of providers working in the region.
HIGHTS, Sylva – Allowing them to connect underserved youth with education, employment, housing, independent living skills, mental health and substance abuse services.
One Dozen Who Care, Andrews – Allowing them to provide underserved youth with opportunities to learn leadership and financial literacy, experience mentorships, and attend activities that would normally be out of their reach due to transportation and other socioeconomic barriers.
Swain County Schools, Bryson City – Allowing them to support after-school learning and care for students during the school system's spring 2025 semester.
Western Carolina Pacesetters, Andrews – Allowing them to expand their Adventure Leader program and grow their roster of youth served.
Our investment has ensured that more than $552,000 will be mobilized toward improving the health and well-being of regional children and young adults, supporting them as they grow into healthy, successful adults.

Main Street America and Smart Growth America have partnered with T‑Mobile to help build stronger, more prosperous small towns and rural communities. With T‑Mobile’s Hometown Grant program, they’re investing big in small towns by awarding up to 100 towns a year with project funding — up to $50,000 each.
More than $12M so far has to been invested to kickstart 275 community development projects across 46 states, with projects like upgrading tech at local libraries, building new hiking trails and revitalizing historic buildings. T‑Mobile is focusing on revitalizing community spaces in towns with 50,000 people or less, and Main Street programs are encouraged to apply. The next application submission deadline is December 31.
