YWCA Salutes South Baton Rouge Church of Christ for Thanksgiving Generosity to YWCA Early Head Start Families

“How do we love you? Let us count the ways.” These are our thoughts as the YWCA extends its sincere appreciation to the South Baton Rouge Church of Christ congregants for the Thanksgiving Harvest Bags for recipients in our community. In November, YWCA staff joined church leaders, youth, and congregate organizers as they gathered, sorted, and the YWCA Early Head Start program. South Baton Rouge Church of Christ has opened its hearts to our families for more than 20 years. THANK YOU!

YWCA Week Without Violence Defense Class

Women from throughout the community and members of the YWCA staff participated in vital defense training conducted by Corporal Wallace Britton (shown in photo). The event was held at the Police Headquarters during national and local YWCA Week Without Violence. The event is held annually to assist individuals affected by intimate partner violence. YWCA has enhanced its services designed to save lives, prevent recidivism, and improve public safety. The YWCA has a highly skilled staff to assist women and families with “wrap-around” support and legal services. Go to YWCA-BR.org.

YWomenVote Initiative

YWCA staff early voted recently at the State Archives Building as part of its ongoing effort called the YWomenVote Initiative. This national

initiative stressed the importance of equity in

the political process. Locally, many women were registered to vote and to take advantage of early voting. YWCA joined with other organizations in co-sponsoring a go-vote initiative downtown near the Municipal Building, where early voting was encouraged.

Baton Rouge General Hospital Offers Mammograms for YWCA

Baton Rouge General recently announced its new medical mobile vehicle to enhance mammogram medical services at neighborhood locations. YWCA was one of the first organizations to bring the services to our staff, mothers, grandmothers, and women in the Mid-City area. The BR General mobile medical team and YWCA Early Head Start Health Manager Alicia Duhon are shown here.

Nominees for YWCA 2024 Employee of the Year

YWCA CEO Dianna Payton honored the 2024 YWCA Employee of the Year candidate nominees. This important staff initiative recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional work in fulfilling the organization's goals and mission. Thanks to New Supporters for YWCA Providence Place For Women and Children

YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge opened its first newly constructed apartment community this summer

dedicated to women and children in need of safe and secure housing as they recover from the trauma of

domestic violence. These families also receive “wrap-around” services as they rebuild their lives, including

assistance with workforce training, job placement, and counseling.

We are deeply grateful to the following organizations for their recent donations of funding, supplies, and furnishings:

An Anonymous Group of Women – a local anonymous group dedicated to serving the needs of women and families in the community presented the YWCA with a second donation.

Baton Rouge Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority – house essentials for each resident.

Woman's Hospital – donation to aid with all resident needs.

National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Metropolitan Baton Rouge Chapter – essential furnishings and apartment accessories.

YWCA EHS Teacher Angel Bell Serenades Staff and Guests at Thanksgiving Event

Special thanks to Angela Bell (standing), who shared her lovely voice with all who gathered for the YWCA Thanksgiving Feast and gathering. Ms. Bell is an Early Head Start teacher who often sings for the staff during their events. The pre-Thanksgiving Feast is a staff appreciation event hosted annually.
