Landscape Lighting for the New Year!
Now that the holidays are over and Christmas lights are off, does your winter landscape look a bit drab? It doesn't have to! With thoughtful landscape lighting you can liven up your home.
Landscape lighting has come a long way in recent years as the technology keeps evolving. Super efficient LED lamps for both new and existing pathlights, uplights and downlights are becoming more common, as well as sophisticated timers that adjust for daylight savings. Newer, more elaborate systems are wi-fi enabled and offer color changing lights that can be adjusted and dimmed with a touch of your smart phone. These LED lamps have over 20,000 different color combinations that can create a variety of lighting effects. You can also customize your own lighting variations based on season, holiday or any theme that inspires you. The possibilities are endless. For more information on lighting technology, feel free to reach out to a Hawks sales representative. It will brighten your life!
January Landscape & Garden Tips
Winter is the best time to plan next years' landscape project for the upcoming season. Contact a Hawks Landscape designer for help.

Use your left over Christmas tree boughs to cover any remaining open ground-covers or perennial beds for the winter.

Keep your indoor plants away from cold drafty windows to avoid damage.

Plants that are susceptible to rodent damage should be protected with hardware cloth during the winter.

Keep snow from piling up around plants to deter damage from mice and rabbits. Proper snow removal helps prevent damage to your lawn and landscape beds and helps you get a jump on spring and summer projects.

If you wish to attract winter birds: woodpeckers love suet, finches and sparrows enjoy thistle seed, cardinals, blue jays and doves and many others snack on sunflower and safflower seeds.

Begin pruning of dormant trees. Oaks, elms, and maples should only be pruned in the winter months to avoid potential disease issues.

Please note: the timing of many of these tips is approximate and can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors. If you have any questions, please contact a Hawks representative at 414-258-5525.
