Dear Friends and Neighbors,
In the midst of the barbecuing and celebrating with friends and family today, let's each take a moment to acknowledge and give thanks for what this last Monday in May is all about. Over the years, countless American servicemen and women have made the ultimate sacrifice, giving heir lives to something bigger than themselves. Today, we honor them and thank them for giving their all on behalf of our country.
These men and women came from all across the country and beyond. They were citizens and immigrants; rich and poor; gay and straight; but they all believed that service to their fellow Americans came before all else. Their dedication is beyond reproach and their commitment, without question. We mourn their passing today and stand in memorial with their families, upon whom this burden lies heaviest.
This is why we take the time today to say, "thank you." Thank you to the families who have experienced loss; thank you to the men and women who continue to serve overseas and thank you to all those who are no longer with us, having dutifully traded their lives to protect us at home.
I wish you all a Happy Memorial Day.

Estimado amigo y vecino,
En medio de los asados y de celebrar con amigos y con su familia hoy, toma un momento para reconocer y dar gracias por lo que significa este último lunes de mayo. Al pasar de los años, innumerables hombres y mujeres en el servicio militar han hecho el sacrificio máximo, dando sus vidas por algo más grande que ellos mismos. Hoy en día, los honramos y agradecemos todo lo que han dado en nombre de nuestro país.
Estos hombres y mujeres vinieron de todo el país y más allá. Eran ciudadanos y inmigrantes; ricos y pobre; homosexuales y heterosexuales; pero todos creían que el servicio a los Estados Unidos venia antes que nada. Su dedicación es irreprochable y su compromiso firme y sin dudas. Lamentamos su fallecimiento hoy y honramos su memoria junto a sus familiares, sobre los cuales hoy, se encuentra el dolor más pesado.
Es por esto que nos tomamos el tiempo hoy para decir "gracias". ¡Gracias a las familias que han sufrido la pérdida; gracias a los hombres y las mujeres que continúan sirviendo en el extranjero y gracias a todos los que ya no están con nosotros, sacrificando sus vidas para protegernos ha nosotros en casa.
Les deseo a todos un Feliz Día de los Caídos.
