"Being a part of the FIDA program through Just Communities has been one of the most impactful experiences of the past five years of my life. I have been an advocate/activist for making our school more equitable by advocating for the inclusion of diverse voices in a safe space for all families for the past three years, but it wasn’t until I was able to be in a safe space with other families who were also pushing for change that I really felt that my voice was heard, understood, and mattered. It was a powerful experience to have so much emotional support and guidance from Rene and the other parents. It gave me the confidence to be at once gracious, but firm and clear, in my language to express to the school board what we saw as the school’s existing barriers that were preventing it from being truly equitable. I don’t think I have ever felt like my words have ever had a greater impact. He sido un defensor/activista para hacer que nuestra escuela sea más equitativa al abogar por la inclusión de diversas voces en un espacio seguro para todas las familias durante los últimos tres años, pero no fue hasta que pude estar en un espacio seguro con otras familias que también estaban presionando por el cambio que realmente sentí que mi voz fue escuchada, comprendida e importaba.
