Holiday shopping has been brisk this year—online and at brick and mortar locations. While many retailers have been challenged by ongoing supply chain hiccups and a shortage of available help, sales numbers for most are up and look promising.
Across the State Chamber retail membership, we’re in the “all hands on deck” moment. Consumers have many options, from small, local, storefront specialty retail to online providers to malls who offer many options under one roof.
Stores at Christiana Mall, for example, are well stocked and consumers have plenty of options. Electronic products may be an exception, but available inventory is still good. "Foot traffic has been similar to what we experienced in 2019 (pre-pandemic) and this is strong given we are open fewer hours each day," said Steve Chambliss, general manager of Christiana Mall. "With the holidays fast approaching, in-store purchases may be a good bet if you're still shopping."
Supporting local continues to be of the upmost importance this season. As you get that last-minute shopping in over the next few days, remember to stop in your favorite store or restaurant to pick up something for your loved ones.
Stay healthy, be safe, and happy holidays!
