The New Mexico Territory was created September 9, 1850. It essentially contained the modern States of New Mexico and Arizona. The New Mexico Territory resulted in land acquired from Mexico during the Mexican American War (1846-1848). The Territory acquired more land in a $10 million-dollar real estate transaction finalized in 1854. The transaction was known as the Gadsden Purchase. The first territory known as “Arizona” was the Confederate Territory of Arizona, established 2/14/1862. It was the lower half of today’s New Mexico and Arizona south of the 34 th parallel. On 2/24/1863 President Lincoln proclaimed “Arizona” a territory with the current north/south boundary with New Mexico at the 109 th meridian. Arizona became the 48 th State on 2/14/1912, exactly fifty years after becoming a Confederate Territory.

On the weekends of December 1 st – 3 rd , and December 8 th – 10 th there will be an “open-air” Christmas Market, fashioned after the Holiday Markets in Europe. This market will feature quality traditional and one-of-a-kind holiday gifts.
The weekend of December 8 th – 10 th will also feature the Carefree Daytime Parade of Holiday Traditions on Saturday, December 9 th at 10:00 am. This parade will be a festive celebration of the entire Foothills Community featuring a broad array of local businesses and groups. Please note that the Parade will now be during daylight because of safety concerns from the previous night-time parade. A fireworks extravaganza will also be held in the evening of the Parade. In addition, during this entire weekend participants in the event will be able to enjoy real snow plus a 35’ high alpine slide in the Carefree Snow Village.
Many additional activities, including Luminaria to celebrate the cherished memory or the life of a loved one, lots of opportunities for kids to meet with Santa and Santa’s Workshop on December 2 nd where kids will be able to join with Santa, his elves and the Desert Foothills YMCA for a morning of holiday arts, crafts and reindeer games.

Tie your business in with this proven “Christmas in Carefree” event. Use the proven power of this event to pull people into Carefree for the benefit of your business. Call us at 488-3686 and let’s discuss how you could tailor a program to get your current and prospective customers involved.
