ART OF LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
|
Learning from Veterans
In November, the Art of Leadership program focused on veterans' issues. Students traveled to the
Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET) for a tour, panel discussion, and dinner.
The students were unaware of the difficulties veterans face as they reintegrate into society. At the conclusion of the visit, everyone felt hopeful and inspired by the determination and perseverance of the veterans despite their abundant struggles. After the visit, students returned to Art with a Heart and created gift bags for the MCVET residents.
One student said, "I had no idea that veterans could even BE homeless, much less that there were so many homeless veterans. From this experience, I truly understand that homelessness does not define a person."

Jack and Jill's Unique Peacock Feathers
Franklin Square Elementary/Middle School's
mascot is a peacock. When Jack and Jill volunteers approached Art with a Heart about creating something for the school representing this mascot, we got creative. Using recycled shoes, volunteers created the colorful "
feathers" of the peacock.
One of the participants said that the project made her feel "great, knowing that I'm making a school look beautiful!" Stay tuned for pictures of the completed installation!
