Rolf was born on July 15, 1942 to Harold E. and Ruth (White) Maurer in Freeport, IL. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald P. Maurer.
He married the love of his life, Barbara A. Sylvester, on August 17, 1963, in Bloomington, IL. She survives. He is also survived by three devoted daughters Stefanie Maurer Evans, Ann Maurer Glowacki (Shawn Glowacki), and Kirsten Maurer Whitmore (Nelson Whitmore.) Rolf graduated from Bloomington High School in 1960, and earned a bachelor of science and master’s degrees in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from The University of Illinois. He also did postgraduate studies at Stanford University. His life’s work took him and his family to northern CA, Reading, PA, and Houston, TX. Rolf was an avid tennis player and followed basketball and football closely. Rolf-isms were often heard: “Out of the Blue,” “At the End of the Day,” and above all else “Make it Happen!”
Rolf was steadfastly involved with the Christian Community, striving to pattern his life after the precepts and examples of Jesus Christ. It was his strong moral core that prompted him to turn his scientific knowledge to the world of clean energy. He built his career with international projects, developing climate friendly alternatives to fossil fuels. This business led him to Asia, Africa, and Europe, particularly Italy. Although he has left us, the projects continue to grow and develop. His strong legacy in his work is so important to the wellbeing of our planet won’t be forgotten. In the words of Jesus, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
