WITH GRATITUDE TO OUR COMMUNITY

This month offers a moment to reflect on what makes our community strong. At the Library, your presence and engagement inspires everything we do. We’re grateful for the many ways you bring our spaces to life—singing along at storytime, making in our Makerspace, browsing our Neighborhood Libraries, supporting our Project READ learners, and so much more.

Each year we are also inspired by the generosity of our Project READ community, especially during the holidays. This year has been particularly challenging to many of our community members and Project READ families. To help ease the burden and ensure that all Project READ families will enjoy a nutritious Thanksgiving meal, Project READ staff, generous donors, volunteers, tutors and board members worked together to distribute Thanksgiving meals to close to 110 Project READ families last week. This included 75 turkeys and 90 hams in addition to fresh produce, eggs, bread and food to prepare side dishes. If you would like to learn more about Project READ or donate to help continue this tradition of giving of food and literacy, click the link.

Lastly, our libraries will be closed at 5pm Wednesday, November 26 and all day Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We wish you a safe and happy holiday season. View holiday closure dates

GIVING SEASON

Small Business Saturday is November 29, and a great way to support local businesses is by shopping at the Friends of the Library Bookstore. Browse low-priced donated books, music, and movies at the Downtown Library lobby bookstore or the kiosk at the Redwood Shores Branch Library. Every purchase supports library programs throughout the year.

Giving Tuesday is December 2, a global day encouraging generosity and community support. In that spirit, we invite you to learn more about the organizations that uplift Redwood City Public Library. You may even be inspired to give to one—or all—of them.

The Friends of the Redwood City Public Library operate the bookstore and kiosk, with proceeds funding a wide array of programs. Learn more at: friendsofrwclibrary.org

The Redwood City Library Foundation has raised millions since 1998 to support major initiatives such as Career Online High School, Bridging the Digital Divide, and our Makerspace. Learn more at: rclfdn.org

Redwood City Friends of Literacy (RCFOL) promotes and supports the intergenerational literacy services of Project READ. Learn more at: projectreadredwoodcity.org/rcfol/

You can find all these organizations—and ways to give—on our DONATE page.

FIXIT CLINIC

Fixit Clinics are fun community-based workshops where neighbors, friends and families work collectively to learn how to repair broken items. On December 6 from 10:30am to 12:30pm, volunteer Fixit Coaches will be in the Makerspace to help you informally troubleshoot, disassemble and diagnose broken items. What’s wrong with it? How did it break? And is it repairable?

Advance registration is preferred but drop-ins are also welcome: https://bit.ly/itemcheckin

CITY CORNER

Redwood City Announces Selection of Patrick Heisinger as Next City Manager

Redwood City’s City Council has selected Patrick Heisinger to serve as its next City Manager, pending City Council approval of an employment agreement at the November 24, 2025 City Council Meeting. If approved, Heisinger will be promoted from his current role as Assistant City Manager and assume the role of City Manager on December 31, 2025, following the planned retirement of current City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz on December 30. The City Council led a competitive recruitment process with support from an executive search firm, including thorough candidate evaluations and multiple rounds of interviews. Community and staff input were among the factors that helped inform the Council’s final decision.

“Patrick is a seasoned local government executive who knows Redwood City well,” said Mayor Elmer Martínez Saballos. “He has helped shape the important decisions and long-term planning efforts that keep Redwood City moving forward. Thanks to City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz and her team, the City is on solid ground, and Patrick is well-positioned to continue that momentum.”
