February 2023
A Message from Board President,
Sheila Mason-Henry
I am humbled to serve on the Housing Unlimited Board and truly honored to have been elected as President for the October 2022 – 2023 term. I am very grateful to outgoing President Janis Smith for her steady and wise leadership during this very difficult pandemic period. As we emerge from this challenging time, I am confident that Housing Unlimited will continue to make strides in reducing homelessness and combatting stigma as it relates to mental health.

With over 200 individuals on our waiting list, we are in a hurry to expand our reach. Housing Unlimited is poised to purchase four new homes over the next 12 months. I am excited to report that three of the homes are already under contract. These three homes are new construction townhomes that we will purchase through Montgomery County’s Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit (MPDU) Program. With these three MPDU acquisitions, we will serve a total of 239 tenants in 87 scattered-site homes in Montgomery County.

After the purchase and occupancy of our homes, we must maintain them in good repair as well as support our tenants in their quest for independence and dignity. To ensure that Housing Unlimited may continue this work long into the future and no matter what challenges may lie ahead, we have established a Legacy Society. I know that many of you have been contributing to Housing Unlimited for years. I hope you will join our board members and others in the community who have become members of Housing Unlimited’s Legacy Society. Many have already pledged legacy support through bequests and other avenues. I invite you to consider joining me by creating your own legacy gift. For more information, you can reach out to our CEO, Abe Schuchman, or find information on our website: www.housingunlimited.org/planned-gifts.

I thank you in advance for investing in our mission and I pledge that we will communicate with you throughout the year about our work and progress. To this end, we recently revamped our website with new videos, photos, podcasts, and expanded information for the public and potential applicants for our housing. Please check our website periodically as we intend to post new
information and updates regularly.

As stated earlier, I am proud to serve at the helm of the Housing Unlimited Board of Directors. It’s an honor to be a member of such a dedicated group of Board members, a group made stronger by Housing Unlimited’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. At both the Board and staff levels, we celebrate our
racial and gender diversity as well as our outreach and inclusion of individuals with lived experience. Board. Staff. Tenants. Community supporters. Let’s continue this GREAT work together.

Kind regards,
Sheila Mason-Henry
