Dear Steve,

We are inspired by the resilience of clients like Jesse*, who found himself without shelter but chose to keep moving forward.

Jesse’s story is one of family, full bellies and a big heart. Growing up, he found joy in the kitchen, cooking meals with his mom and sharing them with extended family.

But when life took unexpected turns, Jesse found himself facing homelessness—a situation that tested his strength and resolve.

Reflecting on his experience at Keys to Change, he said, “On your own, it’s easy to give up. But when you have people around you, things feel better.”

And he’s right—community can make all the difference. During his time in bridge housing, with the help of Keys to Change staff members and partners, Jesse received his food handler’s certification, a set of chef’s knives, and found employment to begin his next journey.

And here’s where the story gets even better… Jesse is thriving today—at home, building toward the life he always dreamed of and has even shared his experience with others facing homelessness.

$25 helps provide dignity to our neighbors living without shelter

As Thanksgiving approaches, many of us reflect on the traditions that bring us comfort—whether it’s helping prepare family meals like Jesse, gathering around the table with loved ones, or savoring the warmth of time spent at home.

This season reminds us of all that we have to be grateful for at Keys to Change: the incredible clients we have the privilege of serving, and you, for your unwavering support in helping us work toward our shared mission—ending homelessness.

We need your help to make stories like Jesse’s possible. With Giving Tuesday just around the corner, we invite you to give now to provide safe shelter and critical support for neighbors like Jesse who are still struggling with homelessness. Together we can make sure that those in need feel the warmth of a big-hearted community this Thanksgiving.

We can't wait to share the rest of his journey with you next week with a special video message from Jesse himself (spoiler alert: his love for cooking lives on!). Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
