Dear Steve,
We are inspired by the resilience of clients like Jesse*, who found himself without shelter but chose to keep moving forward.
Jesse’s story is one of family, full bellies and a big heart. Growing up, he found joy in the kitchen, cooking meals with his mom and sharing them with extended family.
But when life took unexpected turns, Jesse found himself facing homelessness—a situation that tested his strength and resolve.
Reflecting on his experience at Keys to Change, he said, “On your own, it’s easy to give up. But when you have people around you, things feel better.”
And he’s right—community can make all the difference. During his time in bridge housing, with the help of Keys to Change staff members and partners, Jesse received his food handler’s certification, a set of chef’s knives, and found employment to begin his next journey.
And here’s where the story gets even better… Jesse is thriving today—at home, building toward the life he always dreamed of and has even shared his experience with others facing homelessness.
