Why Sleep for Wellness?

Sleep is a crucial element of overall wellness. It is especially important for a growing child. For this week and next, our Wellness Wednesday entry will focus on sleep.

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) is dedicated to improving health and well-being through sleep education and advocacy. Founded in 1990, the NSF is committed to advancing excellence in sleep health theory, research and practice. As a parent, you will find many resources with the following link:

The following videos will be used with students this week to help them understand the importance of sleep:

Kindergarten: Why Do We Need Sleep? (1:48)

Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4: Why Do We Sleep?  (3:33)

Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8: Why Do We Need Sleep? (4:17)

Our plan is to raise awareness for the students this week, and then to give them some suggestions to improve sleep next week. Stay tuned!

Student Competes in Chess Tournament

Congratulations to Saint Brigid of Kildare third grade student Jon Cole, who competed in the 2019 Queen City Classic Chess Tournament this March at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Jon was invited to compete in this tournament after placing third in a Columbus Chess tournament in February. Over 600 players from 8 midwest states participated in the Cincinnati tournament. Jon played in the third grade section, where he competed in five rounds, winning four out of the five rounds! Congrats Jon!

PARISH NEWS
New Email & Text Scam in Diocese

During the past few months there were a series of phony e-mails being sent to unsuspecting persons (clergy, teachers, parishioners, others) from alleged priests of the Dioceses - including a phony one from Bishop Campbell - requesting funds to purchase iTune and other gift cards for alleged charitable and pastoral reasons.

Now there is a new scam - using text messages to convey similar requests.

If you receive any kind of communication/solicitation please contact the individual directly to verify the authenticity of the solicitation or, at least to notify the person that a scam is underway using their identity.

Important Message from the Saint Brigid Athletic Association!

The Athletic Board is pleased to announce a fundamental change in how our board is structured. All positions are now up for re-election each year.  We encourage all parish members to apply regardless of children in the program and/or previous service on the board. All current board members wanting to continue service should apply as well.

This is your chance to get involved! If you have any interest in helping out with the athletic board, this is the time. You can see a list of current board positions on  www.gowolfhounds.com.

If you would like more information about any of our board positions and/or to express interest, simply contact  [email protected]. The time commitment depends on the position, but for most positions is far less than you might expect - and you get to be involved with all our sports programs and initiatives.

While all positions are available, in particular we are actively looking for a new Athletic Director as our current AD will be moving on at the end of this school year. Just contact us for more information!
