Dear Parents,

Spring always brings many special events to celebrate our faith, our student’s progress this year and our school community. This week is the beginning of many special spring celebrations.

This Saturday at 10:00 am our 8th graders will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep in your prayers all of our parish Confirmandi and their families.

Monday, May 1st at 7:00 pm our band students will be performing in the Watterson area band concert. This great event will take place at Watterson High School and will highlight the accomplishments of our 99 band students. Also next week the Watterson Honor Band will be traveling to perform at many schools in the area. We have 29 students in the Honor Band and they are performing at St. Brigid at 10:15 am on May 4th.

Today we celebrate National Administrative Assistants Day! A special thank you to Mrs. Sandy Peecook and Mrs. Megan Wachalec for sharing their organizational skills and cheerful dispositions with the students, parents and staff of St. Brigid School!

Spring Blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

8th Grade Trip to Washington DC

Last week our 8th grade took the first ever class trip to Washington DC. They had a great trip and learned so much from their many visits. The group proudly represented St. Brigid of Kildare School, as the chaperones received numerous compliments from different groups on their respect and behavior during their many tours.

On Wednesday the group toured the Capitol Building and visited the Martin Luther King, FDR, and Jefferson Memorials.

On Thursday, they started the day at the Basilica and had a private Mass by Father Lynch in one of the chapels. From there, they had lunch in the Reagan Building and visited the Holocaust Museum. After that they went to Arlington National Cemetery to see the changing of the guard. They then had dinner at the Pentagon Mall and walked to the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon. They ended the day with a visit to the WWII, Vietnam, and Lincoln Memorials.

On Friday they spent all day at Mount Vernon and had a nice lunch at the Mount Vernon Inn before departing for home.

Prior to the trip, our 8th graders held a bake sale to raise funds for the trip and donated a percentage of the funds to the Honor Flight program. Each student also wrote thank you notes with the hope of giving them to a veteran at one of the memorials. On Thursday a group of our students saw a bus of veterans on an Honor Flight trip and were able to present their cards to the veterans, including a WWII veteran! They also met briefly the Commander of the 3rd Infantry unit that is responsible for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

New Family Mentors Needed

Home and School is currently looking for parents to sign up to be on the New Family Welcome Committee. This entails being a mentor to a new family for the

next school year. Mentor families will attend the New Family Welcome Breakfast (Sunday, August 20th). They will need to be available to check in with their new family monthly and answer any questions to assist with their transition. Mentors

will be paired up with new families with children in the same grade.

We need more mentor families than usual because we have many new families this year. If you are interested in being a new family mentor, please fill out the short survey below. Thank you!!

Bottoms Up Diaper Drive Next Week

From May 1 to May 6, St. Brigid will be collecting diapers as a part of the World’s Largest Diaper Drive through the charity, Bottoms Up. Recently, we had Jo Welsh, the founder of Bottoms Up, come talk to our students. Bottoms Up is a non-profit which brings diapers to those who can’t afford them. Diapers are a basic need for any baby because they help keep the baby clean, healthy, and happy. Unfortunately, diapers cost upwards from $70-80 a month. One in three families cannot afford this huge cost. This leads to families trying to stretch one diaper to last the whole day, which can cause horrible, heart-wrenching infections. This year, Bottoms Up is trying to help families in need by collecting 750,000 diapers. St. Brigid must do our part to ensure they succeed, so we are asking each grade to collect a different size of diaper as written below.

Congrats Lucy Duffy on National Invention Convention Project

Congratulations to 3rd grader Lucy Duffy, whose Ohio Invention Convention project from 2022 on the sound canceling pillow has been chosen to advance to the National Invention Convention at the Henry Ford Center in Michigan this summer. Lucy will attend the convention this June to present her invention and meet with different patent offices and STEM leaders.

In preparation for nationals, Lucy will be presenting at the COSI Science Festival on May 5. She'll do a meet and greet with guests, present to judges, and receive feedback and mentoring from judges to help sharpen her presentation and pitch.

Congratulations and good luck to Lucy as she moves forward with this project she's worked so hard on!

St. Charles Presents Almost, Maine

The St. Charles Preparatory School Drama Department is proud to announce its spring production, Almost, Maine by John Cariani. Almost, Maine will be presented April 27, 28, & 29 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Campus Theatre. Adult tickets are $15 each, and student tickets are $10 each.

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night's dream. Almost, Maine: It's love. But not quite.

Tickets can be purchased through the St Charles website at the link below.
