The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

The first week of school has truly been a joy!  The students and teachers have already experienced many learning opportunities and special times for prayer.  Our opening school Mass was last Friday with both Fr. Black and Fr. Lynch concelebrating.  We were proud to have leadership from our 8th grade participating as altar servers, readers and gift bearers.  We also had many parents, younger siblings and members of the parish community join us, making our opening school liturgy a truly exciting and meaningful way to end our first week. Our Home and School also hosted a special Tears and Cheers Coffee Social before Mass began. This event provided hospitality and a way for our parents to come to the table and connect with each other.

We will continue to attend Mass weekly on Thursday at 9:00 am as a whole school unless there is a holy day or special holiday Mass which will be noted on our website calendar.  (Kindergartners will attend Mass according to a specialized schedule. Kindergarten teachers will inform you).  Parents wishing to attend Mass with their child(ren) may sit with them in East or West alcoves or you may sit with the class.  (Please click here to see the seating chart for Mass. ) Parents, please make contact with the teacher to make sure they know that you are taking your child to sit with you and also make contact with the teacher upon returning your child to the class.

Looking ahead to next week, parents please plan to attend Curriculum Night to learn more about what will be happening in the classroom during the coming year.  The schedule is as follows:

Wed, Sept 6th

Curriculum Night

Grades K - 2, 6:00-6:40 pm

General parent meeting for all grades in Gym, 6:45 - 7:15

Grades 3-4, 7:20-8:00 pm

Thurs, Sept 7th

Curriculum Night

Grades 5-6, 6:00-6:40 pm

General parent meeting for all parents in Gym, 6:45 - 7:15

Grades 7-8, 7:20-8:00 pm

Our format is slightly different this year.  In between the grade level sessions, there will be a general meeting for parents of all grade levels.  This will be an opportunity to introduce Fr. Black to our school community and we will also share some general information regarding our new religion curriculum and our general academic model. Additionally, we will have an EdChoice information table in the cafeteria from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in order to answer questions and assist you with your application.

I look forward to seeing you next week at Curriculum Night!

AM Car Rider Arrival Reminders

To keep traffic running smoothly and to allow your child to get to class on time, please adhere to the following:

  1. Your child must be able to exit the vehicle on their own without the driver leaving the vehicle. If your child needs extra time (bringing in large items etc.), please park and walk your child to the entrance.
  2. Pull as far forward as possible before dropping off your child. Follow staff instructions. The “Drop-Off” is between the crosswalk at the preschool doors (START) and the gym doors (END).
  3. Please consider only making a RIGHT TURN when exiting our property. It will help keep the traffic flow moving and minimize backup onto Avery since it is only a two lane road without a traffic light.

In short, pull as far forward towards the START and when vehicles stop and you receive a signal from staff, let your child out on the curbside of your vehicle.

Thank you for your help with keeping your child safe and the traffic pattern moving efficiently.

Attn St. Brigid School Volunteers: New & Established

If you are interested in volunteering for the school, or are already an established volunteer, we are asking EVERYONE to go to the link below in order to be verified as a volunteer in good standing. This will enable us to merge our old system (paper records) of established volunteers into our Raptor System, along with welcoming new volunteers.

All requirements to volunteer are still applicable (completion of Protecting God’s Children Session and Fingerprint / Background check etc.) and will be verified with your submission by

our Safe Environment Coordinator.

We are utilizing the Raptor Visitor / Volunteer Management System to screen all volunteers in

our school and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff. Upon entering

the building during school hours, volunteers will be asked to present an ID such as a Driver’s

License to be scanned or manually entered into the system. The Raptor System will check the

volunteer’s name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex

offenders. The registered sex offender database is the only official database checked by the

Raptor system. Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the volunteer.

If you have questions about the volunteer requirements or status of your application, please

contact John Denzel (Safe Environment Coordinator) [email protected] or

614.761.3734 ext. 249.

If you have questions about the Raptor System, please contact Bruce McKenna (School Safety

Officer Director) [email protected] or 614.718.5825 ext. 276.

The Rescue Project

September 13—November 15

The Rescue Project tells us that the most urgent task in the church is the compelling proclamation of the gospel, one that offers people a way of seeing reality, and of making sense of the world, history, and life, that is vastly different from the story our modern culture tells.

We invite you to join us for the Rescue Project! Together we can discover The Story.

There are four ways to participate this fall:

  •  Sisters in Christ - Join a community of women in prayer and study. Wednesdays, 1:15-2:45 PM, Deacon’s Room
  • Wednesday Evening Group - Join other parishioners in this study/small groups. Wednesdays, 7-8:30 PM, Berry Room
  • Thursday Morning Group - Join other parishioners in this study/small groups. Thursdays, 10—11:30 AM, Berry Room
  • Individual Small Groups - Create your own small group in your home and receive study materials free of charge from the parish!
