The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

The 2025-26 school year is off to a great start! It was such a blessing to be able to open the school year by attending Mass together last Friday. We had great participation with so many parents in attendance. A big thank you to our Home and School for sponsoring, through the Annual Fund, the Tears and Cheers coffee event following Mass—it was such a beautiful opportunity for fellowship!

We hope that many parents will be able to join us at Mass all throughout the school year. At the beginning of each year, we review with teachers and students procedures and protocols for attending Mass as a school community, and we thought this year it might be helpful for parents to see what we are teaching the children. Please click here to access the flyer.

This Friday, August 29 we will celebrate the end of the first week of school with a dress down spiritwear day! Celebrate your favorite team wearing the colors of your choice -- our Wolfhounds, Buckeyes, Bengals, or whoever your team may be! Make sure you follow the dress down day rules in our handbook.

Next week we will be sponsoring Curriculum Nights. This is a great opportunity to connect with your child(ren)’s teachers and learn more about the curriculum opportunities for the year. The dates and times are as follows:

Wednesday, September 3rd

Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 – 6:00–6:45 pm

Grades 3 and 4 – 7:00–7:45 pm

Thursday, September 4th

Grades 7 and 8 – 6:00–6:45 pm

Grades 5 and 6 – 7:00–7:45 pm

We are grateful for your partnership as together we nurture our children in faith, love, and learning. May this school year be filled with growth, joy, and many blessings for your family.

In gratitude,

Kathy O’Reilly

Congrats Soccer Wolfhounds!

The St. Brigid soccer teams had an outstanding second season! The 4th Grade Girls Jr. Reserve team and the 4th/5th Grade Boys Reserve team both won their leagues, finishing with incredible records of 10-0 and 9-1, respectively.

The 6th Grade Boys team also had a remarkable run, going undefeated (3-0) in the end-of-season tournament without giving up a single goal to capture the Senior Reserve Championship title. Their regular season was equally strong with an 8-2 record.

The 5th/6th Grade Senior Reserve and 7th/8th Grade Varsity Boys teams battled hard against tough competition, with many players stepping up to face older opponents.

We have several Adult Faith offerings to meet the time and demographic preferences of our parishioners.

The Chosen Season Five

This fall, we will begin our study with The Chosen, Season Five. The Chosen is a historical drama based on the life of Jesus and those who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Palestine, the series shares an authentic look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings, through the eyes of his apostles.

Season 5 of “The Chosen,” titled “The Chosen: The Last Supper,” focuses on Holy Week and the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, including the Last Supper, the triumphal entry, Jesus turning the tables in the temple, and the betrayal of Judas. It’s a heavily dramatic season with a lot of build-up and political intrigue, emphasizing Jesus’ teachings and the impact on his disciples. It should lead to great small group discussions!

If you have not yet watched The Chosen and would like to participate in our upcoming study, you will want to catch up by watching seasons 1-4 at home. It is available for free on The Chosen App or online at watch.thechosen.tv (although you will have to set up a free account). You can also watch all four seasons on Prime Video if you have a subscription.

We will begin the study on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 7-8:30 pm, and Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 10:30 am-noon, in the Berry Room of Hendricks Hall. The study will run for 8 weeks.

For more information contact Kim VanHuffel at kvanhuffel@stbrigidofkildare.org.
