The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe WE MADE IT!!!!  Beginning this summer and into the fall as the task force was planning and we were working our way through unique situations each and every day, we wondered if we would be able to stay open until Christmas and we did it!!! It was with the dedication and support of our entire school community that this was possible….with our pastor, students, teachers, staff, parents, and parish staff, we have been able to continue providing quality Catholic education to our children (both in-person and remote) during a once in a lifetime pandemic!

Truly the best Christmas gift ever!!!

May your days be filled with love, peace, hope, and joy this Christmas season.

As always, thank you for your support of Saint Brigid of Kildare School.

Merry Christmas!

Kathy O'Reilly

P.S.  A few notes:
  • We are excited to share that we are having a live Nativity on Thursday….students should wear shoes/boots suitable for the potential snow.
  • Early release on Friday at 1:30 pm.
  • School resumes Monday, January 4th at 8:00 am.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas & Grinch Day
Last Thursday, children got to enjoy a 'Twas the Night Before Christmas party! Children got to wear pajamas to school and got a surprise delivery of hot chocolate before they tuned into a live reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas via Google Meets. Later in the day, children enjoyed popcorn and a movie.

Yesterday was How the Grinch Stole Christmas Day! Students enjoyed a special Grinch-themed lunch and got surprised with a short visit from the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who!

Thank you to Home & School for helping organize this party! Click below to see more photos.
Gifts of Gratitude Contributions Still Accepted
As we near our Holiday break, your Home & School would like to kindly remind you that our Gifts of Gratitude is still accepting donations to show our support and care for ALL the hard work our Teachers and Staff give, day in and day out, for our kiddos.

The recommended amount is $25 per child, and this is completely voluntary. Click the link below to contribute.

Not sure if you have already donated? Or have questions on the program? You can email Joey Tracy, [email protected].

Blessings to you & yours this Christmas,
Joey, Nancy, Leila & Jen
Christmas with COVID-19
Face Mask 2
"We may be done with COVID, but it is not done with us!" As we turn our thoughts to Christmas break, we must continue the practices that have kept our school open since August:

  • mask-wearing (when outside your home)
  • hand hygiene (washing or sanitizing frequently)
  • social distancing (avoid indoor gatherings with people beyond your household)
  • avoid travel to hotspot areas as designated by the CDC and ODH Travel Advisory (plan to quarantine if travel to a hotspot is necessary); contact Mrs. Iannarino, School Nurse, to discuss plans.

Continue to report students who test positive for COVID-19 during Christmas break to Mrs. Iannarino at [email protected] as we are assisting the Franklin County Public Health Department with case reporting.
Support the Annual Fund
The Annual Fund is a once a year contribution that covers the cost of programs that are planned by our Home and School Association. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to school projects and activities that enrich the learning experience for our children. Because of this, we will never ask you or your children to sell items door to door to raise money for our school.

Recent activities funded by the Annual Fund include:

  • The Harvest Parties that included trunk or treating, a pumpkin patch, and a live DJ
  • Christmas-time festivities for the children including the St. Nicholas visit and candy canes, hot chocolate and popcorn treats on the 'Twas the Night Before Christmas Day, and the live Nativity petting zoo!

The Annual Fund suggests a $100 donation per child (and $50 suggestion per preschool child). We realize that families have varying financial circumstances, so any gift you can give is appreciated.
Alum Recognized for Service Project
The Brian Muha Foundation recently recognized Saint Brigid of Kildare School alum Jack Carpenter (class of 2018, and current junior at Bishop Watterson High School) for his service project to the foundation. Below is the excerpt from their email newsletter recognizing Jack:

What does it mean when a junior in high school cares so much about others: young children, teens and young adults, that he gives up much of his time and his money in order to give others some joy? It means we don't have to worry. The future is in good hands. It might be hard for our future leaders but they will rise to the occasion. You may not remember when I wrote recently, "Watch out world. The children are coming." Well, they are.

Jack Carpenter is a junior at Bishop Watterson High School. COVID has changed the way young people can offer service - they can't just come to The Center anymore and play, tutor, serve meals, etc. Jack had to do his service project at home. He bought and gathered a lot of candy - a lot! - and bought Christmas-red gift bags. Then he divided and bagged enough candy to give over 50 children the sweet taste of Christmas. Thank you, Jack.

Parenting Workshop: Surviving in Trying Times
Crucial Conversations will be hosting an upcoming Zoom parenting workshop series called Surviving in Trying Times.

Anyone else feel like they are in survival mode these days? Do you ever have full, happy days where you forget the chaos of the outside (or inside) world? Either way, we are all in the thick of it and one thing that makes it tougher is trying to do it all alone. So, let’s not try to do it alone. In this series we will be inviting families to come together in a supportive learning environment in order to engage with one another and with practices that help us not just survive in trying times, but thrive. We all have the capacity to cultivate safer relationships with ourselves and others. The key is practice. And practicing within the context of community makes it that much sweeter.

Please join us via this Zoom link on the following dates:
  • Thursday, January 7, 7-8:30 PM
  • Thursday, January 14, 7-8:30 PM
  • Thursday, January 28, 7-8:30 PM

Sarah Buffie, Founding Director and Trauma Responsive Care Trainer of Soul Bird Consulting will be providing a series of parenting workshops via Zoom for our St. Brigid of Kildare community. Sarah recently worked with our St. Brigid of Kildare School teachers and staff to learn about trauma-informed care and how to apply empathy as it relates to our students' lives and learning. Sarah's trainings disrupt current models of thinking by building empathy and understanding around the effects of trauma and systems of oppression.

These workshops will include small group discussion and will build on each other (so it's beneficial to attend them all, but not required).

Morning Car Rider Drop Off Update
Please note that our morning schedule will change slightly on mornings when the actual temperature or wind chill temperature is 15 degrees or lower. On these mornings, car rider drop off will start at 7:40. Our teachers stand out in the cold for 30-40 minutes on most mornings, but that is not physically safe for them on frigid mornings. Please remember that no child should ever exit a car until our morning crew comes outside. Thanks for your help and care for our teachers.

Also, please remember we will switch the order of car rider dismissal when we reach the halfway point in the school year. Starting Tuesday, January19, 2021, we will dismiss the L-Z car riders at 2:52 and the A-K car riders will be dismissed at 3:05.

Christmas Mass Reservations Required
Reservations will be required to attend a Mass on Christmas Eve (6:30 PM and 9:00 PM), Christmas Day (9 AM and 11 AM), and January 1 - Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (11 AM). To accommodate as many as possible, we will also be livestreaming some of these Masses in Hendricks Hall and in the Robert D. Walter Family Gymnasium. These locations also require reservations.

Mass reservations can be made on our website until Friday, December 18 at noon. To make a reservation, visit www.stbrigidofkildare.org and click the “Advent & Christmas” link in the top black bar. You will be able to select the location (church, Hendricks Hall or gymnasium) for each Mass. Once the capacity for each location is full, that option will be closed out.

All Masses will be livestreamed at youtube.com/stbrigidofkildarechurch, including the Christmas Eve 4 PM livestream-only Mass. Please consider this option for celebrating the Nativity of the Lord safely at home. We will also be holding Masses every day during the Octave of Christmas, Dec 26 - Dec 31. Please also consider attending one of these Masses instead of a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Mass.
