Corks for a Cause - SPiCE Silent Auction & Wine Tasting

Dear Parents,

We all need to be cherished.  But despite our good intentions, too often we forget to tell the people we love just how precious they are to us.  Valentine's Day reminds us to tell all of our loved ones how glad we are that they are in our lives.

Below are five simple suggestions I read recently in an article about celebrating a family Valentine's Day.  Perhaps one of them could become a new tradition for your family.

1. Rethink Gifts.
Valentines Gifts are NEVER about the item or product. That teaches all the wrong lessons about love. Make this about the heart to heart expressions that build intimacy and connection. That means handmade cards, extra time together, etc, not purchased gifts.

2. Get up a few minutes early so you can enjoy opening each others' Valentines at breakfast.
Be sure to include something heart-shaped or sweet to eat.

3. Let your kids know your love is with them all day
...by tucking little construction paper hearts with love notes into their backpack, lunch, jacket pocket, etc for them to find throughout the day.

4. Make the dinner mood festive.
Make the dinner mood festive with a short family dance party before dinner. Don't forget the romantic slow dance for the grown-ups! Finish with a family hug. After the dancing, eat with candles on the table.

5. Love in Practice.
If you'd like your kids to take pride in making the world a better place, Valentine's Day is a great opportunity to make love tangible in the world by taking valentines goodies or homemade valentines to a nursing home, hospital, or soup kitchen.

However you decide to celebrate, I hope February 14th brings more love into your life.

Happy Valentine's Day,
Kathy O'Reilly

Alumni Chloe Matuska and Alex Stevenson working with students in the Latchkey program
Alumni Volunteer in Latchkey Program

Saint Brigid of Kildare School is grateful to have alumni who enjoy coming back to school here each week to serve in our Latchkey program.

Currently, Chloe Matuska and Alex Stevenson, sophmores at Bishop Watterson High School, are volunteering a few days a week to earn hours for their sophmore service projects. They have worked with students in kindergarten up through 8th grade, helping them with homework, playing games, and even helping the younger students practice reading skills.

Chloe says she chose St. Brigid's Latchkey program for her service hours because "I really liked being here and I wanted to come back and see my old teachers and see what's changed. It's so cool to come back and see the school I went to for 9 years."

Alex chose this service project because he enjoys coming back and seeing how the school has changed in just a few years. "It's crazy how many of the teachers recognize you!" he stated.

Alex and Chloe have worked in the Latchkey program for about 4 weeks. The program, directed by Karol Halm, enjoys having alumni come to volunteer as their schedules permit.

Congrats Power of the Pen Team

The middle school Power of the Pen team competed against more than 20 schools in their district tournament on Saturday.

Wolfhound Families Sharing Time & Talent

Wolfhound Families Sharing Time & Talent is a new feature designed to connect school families with convenient access to volunteer opportunities and needs in the parish.

As one school parent stated, "My experience is once you try a ministry or volunteer role, you get hooked and then continue to sign up. We understand all families are busy, but if we can continue to encourage our school families to become more engaged, their faith and the strength of the parish as a community will also flourish."

St. Brigid is grateful for your time and consideration as your family continues on its faith journey.

Come "waste" time with Jesus at Eucharistic Adoration

What is Eucharistic Adoration?
It is an opportunity to spend time praying with Jesus while the Eucharist is exposed.

What do I do if I come?
Be yourself.
You can kneel or sit silently.
Some live music will be played to help you pray.
Some like to sing and others prayerfully listen.

What do I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing.

What do I bring?
Bring an open heart and willingness to experience the grace of Jesus.
Bring a pillow to kneel or sit on if you like.
Some bring a rosary to pray, while others bring a journal to write thoughts or prayers in.

Why should I come?
To unplug and connect with the real presence of Jesus.
To allow yourself peace and quiet that the world cannot give.
To welcome healing and inspiration.
