Dear Parents,
Each day our children are having new experiences, learning different academic lessons and facing diverse challenges, both in and outside of school. Our role as teachers, parents and mentors is to help them through their successes, curiosities and struggles. As a school community we partner with parents everyday to help children feel safe and find success at school. One of the most important ways we partner with parents is in supporting the role of the parent as the primary educator in the faith development of their children.
This past Sunday on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, during his homily Pope Francis reminded parents of this most important task of being a Catholic parent.
Please take a few minutes this morning to read this beautiful message from Pope Francis.
Enjoy some family fun snow activities with this weekend's predicted snow!
Winter blessings,

Alum Visits with Students
Matt Kramer Discusses Engineering Career
Last Thursday, Mr. Byorth's sixth grade students welcomed guest speaker and Saint Brigid of Kildare School alum Matt Kramer. Matt graduated from Saint Brigid of Kildare School in 2011, Bishop Watterson High School in 2015, and is currently a student at University of Cincinnati studying product design.
Matt talked to the students about the recent work he has done through several internships in product design. He has had design jobs and internships in Columbus, Baltimore, and Boston, and is currently working through co-op in the 3D printing industry. He showed students his digital portfolio and explained the detailed process of product design.
As part of an economics unit in Mr. Byorth's social studies class, sixth graders had just finished a unit on Shark Tank and product design. Students created
their own good or service to "pitch" and explained how it works, how they would make it, and why people should buy it. They enjoyed learning about real-life applications and career opportunities they could have in this area.
Thank you, Matt, for sharing your experience with our students!

Nutrition Wellness Wednesday
This week marks the beginning of Nutrition Wellness Wednesdays! Children will be learning about various nutrition-related topics during their lunch periods (1/16, 1/30, 2/13).
The OSU Medical Dietetic Students will teach "Go, Slow, and Whoa" foods, and introduce a Nutrition Challenge promoting healthier and more nutritious food choices. During this week-long challenge, children are encouraged to keep a log, provided in the Friday folder (Jan. 18th), where they will document each time they chose a "Go" food rather than a "Whoa" food for one week. This log must be returned to the homeroom teacher no later than Jan. 28th. The top three classrooms with the greatest amount of "Go" food to "Whoa" food substitutions will win a special prize!
To see the description of Go, Slow, Whoa foods click here.
Food substitution "rules" are not strict, please use this opportunity to help your child choose healthier foods for meals and snacks!
