Welcome Video for Bishop Brennan

Some of our eighth grade students worked quickly to put together a welcome video for our new Bishop Brennan. The video will be part of a welcome gift for  Bishop  Brennan on behalf of all of the schools in the Diocese. The Diocese asked all schools to compile a short video highlighting our students and community, and welcoming him to Columbus!

Thank you to eighth grade students Caleb Kenny, Peter DeSocio, Bobby McMillen, and Colin Sullivan who worked during their recesses and Genius Hour the last two weeks to make this video on behalf of our school!

Congrats Power of the Pen Team!

Six students from the middle school Power of the Pen team competed in its regional tournament on Saturday. Sara Goodlive won an individual award (placing eighth in the seventh grade division), and the seventh grade team won fourth place overall, earning Honorable Mentions. The participants were Sara Goodlive, Sophia Heise, Carly Henry, Devin Mitchell, Victoria Garascia, and Yulia Karelina. Soon we will find out which writers have qualified for the state tournament in May.

We are very proud of our Wolfhound writers!

The Flu Found St. Brigid

Influenza has made its way into every grade level at St. Brigid of Kildare School this week.  In place of sending class notices as we usually do with communicable diseases, this article will be notification that your child has possibly been exposed to the Influenza virus.  Influenza (also known as "the Flu") is a contagious respiratory illness caused by Influenza viruses.

The following information will help you monitor your child:
  • Symptoms: Abrupt onset of some or all of the following: headache, fever and/or chills, muscle aches, sore throat, congestion, cough, fatigue.
  • Complications: The Flu can lead to serious complications, such as pneumonia and bronchitis. The Flu can also lead to a flare of chronic conditions, such as asthma.
  • Treatment: Prescription antiviral medication is available and is most effective at early onset of symptoms. Contact your primary care physician to discuss its use.
  • Method of spread: Transmitted from one person to another by the droplets of a sneeze or cough. Can also spread by touch of objects handled by a person infected with the Flu.
  • Control: Students with the Flu must stay home until symptoms resolve: no fever for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication (Tylenol, Motrin, etc) and lessening of respiratory symptoms and fatigue.
Continue to notify the Office if your child has been diagnosed with a positive Flu swab. Contact the Health Office for questions 614-718-5825, ext. 239.

A St. Brigid Wellness Activity for Families:

Hilliard City Schools recently concluded digital wellness month. Each week had a different theme: Wellness, Citizenship, Etiquette, and Safety.

We suggest families complete one of the  theme activities over the next four weeks. The webpage provides numerous resources to help parents with the challenges related to social media.

For week 3, complete the activities under "Etiquette" towards the top of the page. They break the activities by elementary and secondary levels.

Installation Mass & Vespers Service for Most Rev. Robert Brennan
The Installation Mass for Bishop Designate Robert Brennan as the twelfth Bishop of Columbus will take place on Friday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral. There will also be an Evening Vespers Service with Bishop Designate Robert Brennan on Thursday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. Due to space restrictions at the Cathedral, attendance at both Vespers and the Installation Mass is by invitation only.

Parish lay participation at these historic celebrations is essential to Bishop Brennan and the Installation Committee, so our parish has selected Mr. and Mrs. Daniel and Stephanie Hackett to attend the Vespers, and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff and Maureen Zimmerman to attend the Installation Mass to represent Saint Brigid of Kildare at these services.
