The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a great Spring Break last week and that you were able to take some time as a family to relax and enjoy this opportunity to spend some extra time together.

Yesterday I was able to attend the Mass and ceremony honoring Monsignor Hendricks for his leadership and service to the parish and the community at large. The Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice is a medal known as the "Cross of Honour," and is the highest medal that can be awarded by the Papacy. It is conferred for distinguished service to the Catholic Church by lay people and clergy. Congratulations to Monsignor Hendricks! See photo here.

On Friday, March 22nd we will be raising awareness of Down Syndrome. See the full article below. Just a reminder that our students are collecting socks as a service project and they may wear mismatched or fun socks to school on Friday. Additionally, we will also have a belated celebration of St. Patrick’s Day by enjoying a green dress down day on Friday.

As Lent is coming to a close just a few reminders:

Operation Rice Bowl

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls promote human dignity and foster solidarity with the poor around the world. Return Rice Bowl donations to the school the week of April 1st or to the church on Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday.

School Stations of the Cross

If your schedule allows, please feel free to join us on Friday in the church at 2:00 pm for Stations of the Cross.

Parish Penance Service

Parish Penance Service will be held Sunday, March 24 following 4:30 PM Rosary and 5:00 PM Vespers in the Church. Visiting diocesan priests will serve as confessors. Also, Individual confessions will be heard Monday, March 25, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the Church

Lenten blessings,

Kathy O’Reilly

P.S. We participated in today’s statewide tornado drill.

SPiCE News: Down Syndrome Awareness

March 21st is Down Syndrome Day. Teachers will be sharing the following slideshow with students this month, as well as taking the opportunity to show educational videos and complete activities with children.

We will have a "sock day" on Friday, March 22. Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have three copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Ds chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks! We will be observing this on Friday, March 22 at our school.

We will also be holding a sock collection during the month of March for St. Mary Magdalene School and Student Success Stores -- a nonprofit that hosts pantries inside of middle and high schools around Columbus, Ohio so that students can get items that they need while at school. We will be collecting new youth and adult sizes of socks.

Kepp the Conversation Going: Talking to Kids About Social Media

We will continue to keep the digital safety conversation going by sharing helpful articles and information for parents.

Talking to Kids About Social Media

One of the best ways to reduce the risks kids face online and through social media is a strong relationship with you. When you build trust and keep conversations open, you can work in partnership with your child to help them get the benefits of connecting online, while also improving their digital literacy and safety.

Click here for a link from Nationwide Children's Hospital about talking with kids about social media.

If you have digital safety apps or similar helpful information to share, or if you are a digital media professional willing to share your expertise for the benefit of our school community, please contact Allie Wing at [email protected].

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition Results
