Dear Parents,

Lent begins today, and during this liturgical season we are called to practice prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. This is a time to prepare ourselves to celebrate the glorious Resurrection of Jesus.  As a family we suggest that you consider gathering together for a few minutes this evening to talk about how your family will practice the Lenten traditions of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Below are some of the many opportunities for you to consider as you discuss how your family can best practice Lenten traditions this year.

Stations of the Cross
As a school community we will spend extra time in prayer and reflection by attending the Stations of the Cross.  You are invited to join us for the Stations on the following dates:
March 15,  2:00 PM
April 1,  2:00 PM
April 9,  2:00 PM
April 17,  2:00 PM

CRS Ark of Hope and Rice Bowls
To show support and to raise awareness of the needs of our larger global community we are asking families to participate in the Catholic Relief Services Ark of Hope and Rice Bowl Project. Using the symbolism of the Noah's Ark story, our students are pariticipating in lessons in the classroom and in this week's CARE meeting to learn more about the needs of our most vulnerable brothers and sisters around the world.  Students are being asked to find creative ways to raise money to donate to the Rice Bowl which will be used to purchase animals to "fill the ark". The animals will be used for agricultural projects to help build self-sufficiency and bring food security to communities around the world.

Easter Basket Collection for the Holy Family Soup Kitchen
The parish Social Action Committee will collecting Easter candy, and nutricious snacks the week of March 18th to make Easter Baskets for the Holy Family Soup Kitchen.  Donations can be made at church or school.

Daily Reflections
If you are interested in some daily inspiration coming to your  inbox each morning two of my favorites are Bishop Robert Barron and Matthew Kelly.
Soup Suppers
Additional ways your family can pray, fast and give alms is by attending the parish Lenten Soup Suppers.  As an act of kindness during the soup supper consider making a donation to the Catholic Relief Services - Operation Rice Bowl.
The parish Lenten Soup Suppers and Stations are on the following dates:
March 12,  6:00 PM
March 19,  6:00 PM
March 26,  6:00 PM
April 2,  6:00 PM
April 9,  6:00 PM

Taize
Many of our families attended Taize prayer during Advent and Msgr. Hendricks and I would like to invite you to attend Taize prayer again during Lent.  It is a beautiful way to spend a quiet hour together as a family with prayer, reflection and music. Taize Prayer will take place on April 11 at 6:30 pm.

Together we can make this Lent especially meaningful for all of our children.

Lenten Blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

Stu dent Meets with State  Reps

Saint Brigid of Kildare School 6th grade student, Bailey Kerins, has been involved in fundraising for the  NoBody is Perfect non-profit organization that raises awareness for eating disorders and promotes a positive body image.  NoBody is Perfect started three years ago at the University of Notre Dame, and grew over the last couple years and is now a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

On February 8th, Bailey had the opportunity to meet with Ohio State Senator Stephanie Kunze, Policy Director Bridget Harrison and Ohio State Representative Rick Carfagna to introduce her non-profit NoBody is Perfect.  The meetings were located at the Ohio Statehouse and the Governors Office.  During each meeting, Bailey presented the Mission and goals of the charity.

Bailey has fundraising events scheduled for this year, including a 5K on August 4th at Glacier Ridge Park, a TopGolf fundraiser, and speaking engagements with Dr. Sarah Altman.

Congratulations to Bailey for her hard work and goal of helping other people!

National Assessment of Educational Progress

Last week, our 8th grade students participated in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), a measurement of student achievement in the United States. NAEP is considered the gold standard of assessments because of its high technical quality. Our school was selected to represent other Catholic and private schools across the nation, to accurately capture the nation's student progress. Schools, students, and teachers who participate in NAEP perform a valuable community service and enable The Nation's Report Card to provide a more inclusive representation of what our nation's students know and can do in key subject areas.

Thank you to our 8th grade students for completing this assessment and making an important contribution to The Nation's Report Card!

A St. Brigid Wellness Activity for Families:

Hilliard City Schools recently concluded digital wellness month. Each week had a different theme: Wellness, Citizenship, Etiquette, and Safety.

We suggest families complete one of the  theme activities over the next four weeks. The webpage provides numerous resources to help parents with the challenges related to social media.

For week 2, complete the activities under "Citizenship" towards the bottom of the page. They divide the activities into elementary and secondary levels.  Click the link here.

PARISH NEWS
Corks for a Cause - Thank You!

THANK YOU for your support of our SPiCE program at Corks for a Cause!

We had another successful fundraiser for our parish SPiCE program, raising thousands of dollars for children in our parish and school with special learning needs.

This year, we introduced our next big goal for our SPiCE program -- launching a  social emotional learning program to help children develop the skills needed to manage emotions, learn empathy, and build healthy relationships.   Research shows that investment in social emotional learning in schools has led to gains in academics, improved classroom behavior, better stress management, and positive mental health outcomes. In just minutes at Saturday's event (despite the technological difficulties!), you helped us raise over $15,000 for this program! We are so grateful for such a supportive community that allows our SPiCE program to grow and adapt to the changing needs of our children.

If you were unable to attend or support our event this year, you can still contribute to our children by clicking the link below.

(scroll down to the Donate Now section)

Thank You to our speakers at the event, Chris & Jackie Walling, for sharing their heartfelt SPiCE story. To read their presentation notes, click here.
