The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support of the Corks for a Cause event which provides funding for our SPICE (Special People In Catholic Education) program.  The funds generated at this event and through ongoing generous donations from so many have become vital in allowing our school to have the resources necessary to meet the specialized needs of our students.  Our Saint Brigid community can be proud that we are a Catholic school that values each student as a child of God with  unique spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, cultural, and emotional needs.

Spring break is fast approaching giving us all time to relax and refresh and take a break from the fast paced schedule of the school year.  This break also allows for extra time for students to engage in social media and technology. The opportunities that these tools offer are amazing; they have given us so many advancements and wonderful resources.   However they come with great responsibility.  Here are some great resources for parents to review on Common Sense Media: Parenting, Media, and Everything in Between | Common Sense Media.  This site has great articles regarding TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and many others.  The topic of social media and pre-teen/teen usage has become even more important than ever before due to easy access and peer pressure.  I hope these articles will be of help to you, and please also know that we are planning a speaker in the near future on this topic.

Our next school safety drill will be on Wednesday, March 22 at 9:15 AM.

The deadline to apply for any tuition assistance for the 2023-24 school year is March 15th.  Please note this is next week in the middle of spring break. We have additional funds to award this year, so we are strongly encouraging any families in any need of assistance to apply. If you have questions on the application process, please reach out to Megan Wachalec at [email protected] or 614-718-5825 if you have questions.

The full 2023-24 school calendar will be released in the near future.  Please keep in mind that there may be some additional days that school will be closed and we have not set the closing day of school at this time.  In the meantime, here are a few key dates that may help you with your planning for the year ahead:

2023-2024 School Year

Dispensation for St. Patrick's Day

The obligation to abstain from meat on the Fridays of Lent is an important element of the Church's observance of the penitential nature of this holy season.

This year, March 17, the Friday of the Third Week of Lent, corresponds with Saint Patrick's Day, traditionally an occasion for joy-filled celebrations in this diocese, especially among those of Irish heritage. Bishop Fernandes, taking into consideration both past practice and present circumstances, has granted to the faithful of the Diocese of Columbus, as well as to any visitors or travelers who may be physically present within the territory of this diocese, a dispensation from the obligation of abstinence from meat on March 17, 2023, provided that the member of the faithful taking advantage of this dispensation, undertakes one of the following works: 1) makes a pilgrimage or visit to any church in the Diocese of Columbus named in honor of St. Patrick (Columbus, London, Junction City); 2) assists at Mass at any church, chapel, or oratory on March 17; 3) prays the “Breastplate of St. Patrick,” attributed to St. Patrick; 4) engages in some pious devotion such as the Rosary, the Stations of the Cross, or Eucharistic Adoration; or 5) performs an act of comparable penance (such as abstinence from meat) on some other occasion during the Third Week of Lent.

Preschool Zoo Visit - Thank You Annual Fund!
