Saint Brigid of Kildare School Wins 2019 Innovations in Catholic Education Award
Congratulations to Saint Brigid of Kildare School for being selected as the grand prize winner of the
2019 Innovations in Catholic Education Award
in the category promoting Catholic identity.
The Innovations in Catholic Education Award, created by Today's Catholic Teacher, honors Catholic schools that have led the way nationally by implementing exemplary innovative programs to improve the teaching and learning of their students, faculty, and staff. The 2019 award was offered in four categories: promoting Catholic identity, curriculum and instruction, technology integration, and total community involvement.
On April 24, at an awards event during the NCEA (National Catholic Education Association) Convention in Chicago, one grand-prize winner was announced in each category, and those four winning schools each took home a $1,000 prize. Winning schools will be featured in a special section in the fall issue of Today's Catholic Teacher in addition to being honored at the awards presentation banquet during the NCEA Convention.
Saint Brigid of Kildare School won this award for our discipleship model. With the goal of increasing students' understanding of their personal call to discipleship, St. Brigid has implemented many methods of teaching and reminding students what it means to be a modern-day disciple. Teachers provided visuals to help students learn that disciples are kind, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn. A Student Discipleship Rubric was created to allow students and teachers to assess progress with each tenant. The code of conduct and even cafeteria rules were rewritten so that the expectation is clear: Student disciples will be kind, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn in all places and at all times. This discipleship project has taught students how to measure their own daily actions with the understanding of how Jesus calls us to live.

Sam Severance is a 2010 graduate of St. Brigid of Kildare School, and a 2014 graduate of Bishop Watterson High School. Below is his story, full of strength, hope and faith -- and his plans for the future, including entering the priesthood.
WOOSTER - Sam Severance is back on field with The College of Wooster's baseball team for the 2019 season this spring - something few thought possible at this time last year.
A senior outfielder turned designated hitter, Severance is determined to finish his intercollegiate career despite having had his lower right leg amputated following a protracted and agonizing battle with bone cancer.

Arc of Hope Update
Over $3,000 Raised for CRS
\We are excited to announce that we have collected a total of $3,112.61
for th
e Catholic Relief Services Ark of
Hope
Project and Operation Rice Bowls.
This means that our students have raised enough money to purchase 3 arks!
This generous donation will be able to support children in underserved areas of the world with farm animals to build self-sufficiency and food to feed their community.
Inspired by the Arc of Hope fundraising project, fifth grade student
Calin Shelley worked to design and create a 3D printed Arc of hope with the words
"Sharing our Strengths with God" surrounding it.
He was excited to help raise money for the project,
and tied in the Lenten project with our school theme in his creation. To the right is a close up of his detailed work.

Day.
Our end of the year

day will feature inflatables, game stations, activities, and fun for all grade levels to enjoy! We need LOTS of volunteers to make this
day fun and safe for our kids. Please sign up to help make this
day a success!
We need volunteers for the
day (8:15 to 1 pm) to work at one of the stations or to walk with a designated class. We will also need lunch volunteers (9 to 11:00 am).

This Monday
The Spring Area Band Concert is this coming Monday, May 6 at 7pm at Bishop Watterson. This concert involves all of our 81 band students at St. Brigid. Come out and support our band program!

Contribute Online to Gifts of Gratitude
Gifts of Gratitude was established by the Home and School Association as a united effort to provide monetary gifts to teachers and staff members at Christmas and the end of year to thank them for all they do for our children.
Why participate?
This is a convenient way for families to make sure that each teacher, aide, and staff member who touches your child's life is recognized for all they do at St. Brigid. Instead of several small gifts from each student, each teacher and staff member will receive a monetary gift that they choose how to use - whether they want to splurge on themselves or help with their own family's expenses.
What if I already participated at Christmas?
If your family donated to the Gifts of Gratitude program at Christmas time, no need to donate again! We only ask for each family to donate once each year.
How much do I give?
The suggested annual gift amount is $25 per child; however, any amount is graciously accepted!
What's the deadline?
Please contribute by May 10, 2019 for the year-end gifts.

Friday Night Lights is Coming!
The teams and coaches of the Central Catholic League have joined together for the second annual Friday Night Lights Football Camp! This one night camp will focus on the FUNdamentals of CCL Football and is open for all young men in grades 2-7! Last year was awesome and this year will be better!

Spelling Bee
The St. Charles Preparatory School Drama Department is proud to present its spring musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Spelling Bee
will be shown on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, May 2-4 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, May 5 at 2:00 PM in the St. Charles Campus Theatre (2010 East Broad Street). Adult Tickets are $10 each and student tickets are $5 each.
