First Day of School

Dear Parents,

As Memorial Day approaches we are grateful for the many blessings of the 2018-19 school year!

Next Tuesday at 1:15 pm we will celebrate our student athletes who have participated in winter and spring sports.  Following this recognition, the annual 8 th grade vs. faculty volleyball game will take place.  All students and staff always enjoy these spirited events.  Parents are welcome to attend!

This week we are also celebrating students' spiritual, academic and personal growth.  Student-led conferences are taking place at home beginning today. This opportunity allows both the student and the parents to review and celebrate a year's worth of spiritual growth and academic learning.  Please return your reflection materials back to the homeroom teacher next Tuesday, May 28th. Students will also be receiving summer learning materials to assure that they continue to have rich learning opportunities during the next few months in addition to enjoying the summer by "being a kid."

Next week we will proudly graduate our 21st class of 8th grade students on Thursday evening at 6:00 pm.  Our last day of school will be May 31st and the day will begin with our annual 9:00 am Leadership Mass and teacher and staff recognition.  Please join us in prayer and celebration if your schedule allows.

As the end of the school year is rapidly approaching, we begin thinking about the calendar for next year.  A few dates of note are "Parent Administration Day" and "Meet The Teacher" for grades 1- 8 which will both take place on Monday, August 19 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.  Incoming kindergarten students will have WOW Day on Tuesday, August 20th and kindergarten parents will be receiving detailed information in the mail regarding this program.  The 1 st day of school for 2019-20 will be August 21st.

I do have a few staff changes ready to announce at this time.  Mrs. Megan Byorth Sobecki will be leaving the 1-2 team and will be joining our team of intervention specialists. Mrs. Lynne Raden, 4th grade math/religion teacher will be moving to Virginia to join her husband as he takes a new position. Miss Carla Chiavacci, middle school literacy teacher, will be leaving us to begin a PhD program at The Ohio State University. Mrs. Lori Schnegg will be retiring after 27 years in the classroom.  Lori is planning to enjoy some time and flexibility with her husband and her twins as they begin college. Best wishes to all as they begin a new phase of their journey. A special thank you to Mrs. Schnegg for many years of service in Catholic education, most of which has been at St. Brigid of Kildare.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend and remember to honor our men and women who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. armed forces.

Spring blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

Become A New Family Mentor

Home and School is currently looking for parents to sign up to be on the New Family Welcome committee. This entails being a mentor to a new family for the next school year. Mentor families will attend the new family welcome breakfast on Sunday, August 18, and also need to be available to check in with their new family monthly and be available to answer any questions and assist with their transition. Mentors will be paired up with new families with children in the same grades.

If you are interested in being a new family mentor, fill out this short form.

If you have any questions, contact Alexis Santangelo (alexis@innovationexhibits.com) or Leah McCoy (leah.mccoy@gmail.com).

PARISH NEWS
Meals on Wheels Training Opportunity
Meeting May 23

There is a strong need to provide and deliver meals for the elderly in Columbus. You and your family have the chance to partner with LifeCare Alliance's Meals on Wheels program to help keep our aging neighbors in their homes, where they want to be. Our children will see the good they are doing in their community by handing over a hot meal to someone in need, while spending some quality time with their family.

We are looking to recruit an additional 10-12 families to join the 20 or so of us that are currently servicing our route. You can work the route as frequently or as infrequently as you would like, but we are asking for a commitment of at least once per month.

Meals will be picked up at 10:45 am at Dublin Community church in downtown Dublin. Our route takes a little over an hour to complete. We will have an informational meeting and training session on Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 am (immediately following Mass) in the Kelty Library.

Please contact Nancy Davis to RSVP via email at nd43065@icloud.com or text 336-337-4421, or with any other questions you might have.
SBAA Board Changes - Thank You
The St. Brigid Athletic Association would like to extend a Wolfhound Thank You to our outgoing board members.

Rob Hooper - Volleyball Commissioner - has decided to step down as commissioner - please thank Rob for his time in growing the Volleyball program.
Welcome to  Suzanne Glenn as she takes over as the new Volleyball Commissioner - if you have questions about the Volleyball program - please reach out to Suzanne at  volleyball@gowolfhounds.com  .

Scott Kasun - Athletic Director - has decided to transition out of this role after 11 years on the Athletic Association board - the first 6 years as Football Commissioner, and most recently the past 5 years as Athletic Director.   Scott has been monumental in helping to build up the SBAA as well as contributing to many diocesan athletic initiatives.  As Scott's last child now graduates from St. Brigid, he will be missed on the board, but Scott still plans to help out his replacement as well as be active in supporting the Volleyball and Football programs in a number of ways.

Tim Long - current Football Commissioner - will take over as the new Athletic Director, which leaves the SBAA with a need for a new Football Commissioner.  If you're interested in becoming the Football Commissioner, please email  football@gowolfhounds.com

If you run into Rob or Scott - tell them thanks and best of luck to Suzanne and Tim in their new roles.
