Wolfhound Wednesday - May 28, 2025 | | Before this month’s 4th grade pilgrimage field trip, students participated in a special retreat led by Ellie Hanson, Youth Minister at St. Brigid of Kildare, to prepare their hearts and minds for the journey. | |
The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,
As the year draws to a close on Friday, May 30th, I would like to once again invite everyone to our closing school liturgy at 9:00 AM (please note there will not be a school Mass on Thursday). Following Mass we will be recognizing our school staff who have served 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years at our school. We will also announce the names of this year's scholarship recipients. The day will close at 1:00 PM with early dismissal (please note the change from our regular 1:30 PM early dismissal).
Next week will be our final regular Wolfhound Wednesday for the school year. However, periodically during the summer months, there will be a Wolfhound Wednesday with summer updates.
We are pleased to announce several new additions to our teaching staff for the upcoming school year.
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Hannah Staffeld and Ms. Lillian Roby to the 5-6 team.
Ms. Staffeld is a recent graduate of Kent State University with a degree in Middle Childhood Education, specializing in science and social studies. During her time at the university, she was actively involved in campus ministry, serving in a leadership role. She is excited to begin her journey as a Catholic school educator and to share her faith in the classroom.
Ms. Roby graduated this May from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She brings with her a strong teaching philosophy rooted in building relationships, fostering mutual respect, and creating a sense of belonging for all students. Lillian stated during her interview that she finds joy in helping students grow academically and spiritually.
We are also excited to welcome Mrs. Kailey Sunagel and Ms. Mia Desciscio to the 1-2 team.
Mrs. Sunagel, an alumna of our school, shared during her interview how meaningful it is to return to the school that shaped her early years. She is eager to be part of our supportive and faith-filled teaching community.
Ms. Desciscio is a May graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Originally from the Cleveland area, she attended Saint Albert the Great and Walsh Jesuit High School. In her interview, she spoke of the strong foundation of service, compassion, and academic excellence instilled in her through her education—values she now brings into her own teaching practice.
We are truly blessed to welcome these talented, faith-filled educators to our faculty and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our students and school community.
We have prayed, we have studied, and we have played, and now it is time to take our summer break to renew, refresh, and prepare for the 2025-26 school year.
Thank you for a great year, and on behalf of the entire school faculty and staff, we wish you a restful, prayerful, and fun-filled summer.
Summer Blessings,
Kathy O’Reilly
P.S. Lunch on Thursday: chicken nuggets, chicken sandwiches or a bagel, vegetable, fruit

Jubilee Prayer
Father in heaven,
may the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pligrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever.
Amen.

Sowing Seeds of Hope
The 2024–25 school year at St. Brigid of Kildare School was one rooted in optimism and growth, guided by the theme “Seeds of Hope.” This meaningful focus provided students with countless opportunities to learn that, despite the many challenges in the world, God’s love remains constant and unwavering.
Using the simple yet powerful imagery of a seed, children explored how care and nurturing can transform something small into something beautiful, whether a blooming flower or a piece of fruit that nourishes the body. This metaphor served as a foundation for lessons on hope, compassion, and inclusion.
In partnership with the SPiCE (Special People in Catholic Education) program, students also spent the year learning about different disabilities, celebrating awareness months, and deepening their understanding of inclusion and empathy, particularly as they relate to people with special needs.
Each month focused on a different disorder or disability, such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, rare diseases, and Down syndrome. In the classroom, students discussed these topics and participated in hands-on activities that encouraged empathy and understanding. Highlights included adaptive physical education experiences, where students played sports under conditions simulating hearing loss, vision impairment, and physical paralysis. Early in the year, students used bracelets to help express and manage back-to-school anxiety. Families were also engaged in the learning process, with parents receiving information to support continued conversations at home.
The year concluded in May with a celebration of hope and inclusion. Students in grades K–8 decorated paper flowers with words that reflected what they had learned—messages like “We are all different,” “No one is perfect,” and “Acceptance” were among the artwork. These vibrant blooms symbolized the growth of compassion and understanding in each child, forming a garden of hope that captured the spirit of the entire year.
St. Brigid of Kildare School would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Kathy O'Reilly (Principal) and Mrs. Jill Carfagna (Vice Principal), and the faculty for supporting the SPiCE mission during these important lessons and awareness months.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” — Romans 15:13
