The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,

As you may have heard by now, our school community is grieving the death of one of our own. Alumni Brendan Foley died on Sunday after a four year battle with cancer.  Brendan was a freshman in college, and was a member of our Saint Brigid of Kildare eighth grade Class of 2015 and the Bishop Watterson Class of 2019.

The Reception of the Body and calling hours will be held in our church on Sunday, Nov 17 from 4-7pm. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov 18 at 10am followed by lunch. To honor Brendan and to support his parents, our eighth grade students and all middle school teachers will attend Brendan's funeral on Monday morning in our church.

Thank you, as always, for your support. It is at times like these when I am so grateful for our Saint Brigid of Kildare school community.

Autumn Blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

Crucial Conversations: Tackling Anxiety is This Tuesday, Nov 19
Anxiety is skyrocketing. How can we help?

The numbers have been rising steadily; between 2007 and 2012, anxiety disorders in children and teens went up 20%. The rate of hospital admissions for suicidal teenagers has doubled over the past decade. What's causing this rise and how did we get here?
Gifts of Gratitude
Gifts of gratitude was established by the Home and School Association as a united effort to provide a generous monetary gift to every school and parish teacher and staff member at Christmas and the end of the year to thank them for all they do for our children.

Will my family be recognized for participating?
Yes — the teachers and staff will receive a list of families who participate in this program. You may also let the teachers and staff know that you participated in the program by marking “G.O.G” inside your Christmas card.

How much do I give?
The suggested annual gift amount is $25 per child once a year, however any given amount is graciously accepted!
ColorCycle Recycling Program
Saint Brigid of Kildare School will be participating again in a recycling program called Crayola ColorCycle - an amazing program created to repurpose used markers instead of sending them to landfills!

Please bring your used markers and highlighters (they don't need to be Crayola brand) to the school for recycling in the designated tubs.

Last year, we collected and recycled 43 pounds of markers!
Alumni Inducted into St. Joseph of Arimathea Society
Bishop Watterson's St. Joseph of Arimathea Society held its induction during the All Saints' Day Mass.

The SJAS is a pallbearer society under the patronage of St. Joseph of Arimathea. The group, now in its eighth year, consists of 26 young men -- juniors and seniors - who have been trained and commissioned for this service of assisting at the burial of the departed.

Congrats to our Saint Brigid of Kildare School alumni who were recently inducted: Christopher Crane, Andrew Mershad, Max Ritchey, and Ian Simone.

"No" is a Complete Sentence
As parents, we'd do anything to make sure our children are happy and healthy, but many of us also go to great lengths to shield them from feeling hurt, uncomfortable or unsuccessful.
