The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of All Saints by attending 9:00 am Mass together as a school community. Mass began with a procession of our 1st and 2nd graders wearing stoles and medals with the names of the saint they are studying this month. Additionally our student cantors led us in a beautiful Litany of the Saints to help make our celebration extra special. It was great to have so many parents, grandparents, and community members join us on this special day.

November is a time to reflect and give thanks for all of God’s blessings. One of our greatest blessings is our parent volunteers. Our volunteers have been active this year already in so many vital ways in working with our students and providing support for our teachers and staff. We have really appreciated and enjoyed having parent volunteers for outdoor recess. The Sign Up Genius for recess volunteers is always available in our Quick Links above. This issue of the Wolfhound Wednesday also has many additional opportunities for working together as ONE serving God, our school, and our community.

Speaking of recess, we will be continuing to go outside for recess as much as possible even though the weather will soon be turning colder. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with hats, gloves and coats and that they are labeled with your child’s name. Encourage your child to check our Lost and Found bin. It is overflowing with many clothing items….especially PE jackets!

Autumn blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

Bark Web Filtering

St. Brigid of Kildare subscribes to a web filtering service called “Bark”. In grades K-8, Bark allows the school to monitor anything occurring on student’s school issued device and school email address.

Through Bark's Parent Portal, guardians can also monitor their own student’s devices when not at school. This is a complimentary service as it unites schools and families to pick up alerts after hours, on weekends, and over holidays.

Through the free Parent Portal account, you can:

  • monitor the alerts we receive here at school
  • set up your own alerts to receive after school hours
  • create your own block/allow list for after school hours
  • set up screen time monitoring for any home devices (only works on phones and tablets)
  • set up location monitoring to remind your child to “check in” when they arrive at a specific destination (only works on phones and tablets)

Soon, you will be receiving an email from Bark, wishing to confirm your contact information in order to receive alerts. If you do not wish to receive alerts, simply ignore the email sent from Bark.

If you have any further questions or concerns regarding Bark, please contact Kerinan Jordan at [email protected].

Musical Help Wanted!

Much of the success of the past Saint Brigid musicals is thanks to all of the behind-the-scenes work and leadership of many talented staff, parents, and adult volunteers. We are in need of volunteers interested in becoming involved in the school musical productions. Areas of skills and leadership needed include set design and building, costumes, props, production, and much more. All volunteers of different skills and backgrounds are welcome.

If you are interested in sharing your talents, please email Ms. Bensonhaver at [email protected].

Thank You to Everyone Who Donated to the Annual Fund!

Last week students enjoyed a day of festivities celebrating the Fall Harvest. There were parades, trunk or treat, donuts, games and fun activities. Events like this are made possible by your support! The Annual Fund donations pay for the parties planned by the Home and School Association. Please consider a once-a-year contribution of $125 per student ($50 for preschool). 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to school projects and activities that enrich the learning experience for your children.

SPiCE News & Notes: Talking to Kids About Politics

Talking about politics can be tricky and may lead to difficult social interactions and strong emotions. Yet no matter our personal political views, most of us want to raise the next generation to be responsible and engaged citizens.

To help children become good citizens, we have to start by engaging them in conversation about local and national policies and current events. These conversations can happen a lot earlier than many adults think.

Where do I start?

Developmental researchers have shown that children as young as 3-years-old have a basic understanding that there are important people who help make rules for the people around them.

Winter Coats, Scarves & Hats Drive - Last Day

We are collecting new or gently used coats, mittens, and scarves to help support Basement Blessings. The coat drive is being run out of the Help My Neighbor food pantry, which is a sister effort of Basement Blessings, both of which run out of Smoky Row Brethren Church. The coats we collect will be spread between the Smokey Row location, a Hispanic church, and a church in the hilltop.

With winter approaching, they are in desperate need of cold-weather gear in sizes baby - adult L. Coats, hats, gloves, scarves, hoodies are all needed —— gently used and washed, please.

The drive goes through Wednesday, November 2.
