WOLFHOUND WEDNESDAY
November 3, 2021
5th & 6th grade students in Power of the Pencil Club enjoy creative writing after school.
The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,

All Saints Day invites us to reflect on the kind and courageous actions of the saints and how we can model our lives based on their example. More than ever, in today’s struggling world we need to find as many ways as possible to spread the Gospel messages of kindness and respect. During the month of November our students will be studying the lives of the saints. Our 1st and 2nd graders are sharing their saint research with the school community each morning during our morning prayer meeting. All of our students and staff are being invited to place a prayer of remembrance request in our Remembrance Prayer Book. Each morning during our opening prayers we will remember our loved ones during this month of All Saints and All Souls. It was great having so many of our parents join us for the All Saints Day Mass on Monday. Just a reminder that we ask our students to wear masks indoors, therefore when joining your child at Mass please also wear a mask in order for us to be consistent and to keep everyone safe and healthy.

During this coming month our teachers are offering conferences for parents who would like to touch base with their child’s teacher. Please see the story below for more information. Additionally, I would like to emphasize the importance of reading the weekly Friday emails from your child’s teacher and reviewing your child’s work with them over the weekend. This weekly process enhances communication and understanding of your child's progress over time. Our teachers carefully craft these emails to keep parents informed and an important part of the learning process.

We have really appreciated and enjoyed having parent volunteers for outdoor recess. The Sign Up Genius for November volunteers is available below. We will be continuing to go outside for recess as much as possible even though the weather is turning colder. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with hats, gloves and coats.

School pictures will be coming home this week. Picture retakes will be on Tuesday, November 9th. Important information is in the story below.

Autumn blessings,
Kathy O’Reilly

Picture Retake Day will be next Tuesday, November 9. School pictures will be coming home this week.

For students that placed an order but need a retake - you MUST return your ENTIRE UNCUT package on picture day.

For those that were ABSENT on the first picture day and didn’t already place an order, here is the direct link to now place their order:

Everyone that was photographed on the first picture day will receive an envelope with their picture package (even if they didn’t purchase a package). Each envelope contains a package insert with the student’s proof along with a web link and password that they can go online and place an order. There are also other products and items that make great Christmas gifts! These orders are shipped directly to the customer.

Class pictures will be delivered to the school when the retake packages come in.
Pick Up & Drop Off Reminders
car-front-icon.gif
Drop off reminder: The safety of our students is our highest priority. For those who are arriving at school after the morning bell rings at 8 am, please remember to park, walk your child up to the building and sign them into school. Students are not permitted to sign themselves in without a parent present.

Early Pickup Reminder: We understand there are many circumstances throughout the year that require you to pick up your child early from school. Please remember you should always plan to pick up your student and be out of the parking lot by 2:30 pm to avoid being blocked in by the buses.

Thank you!
COVID Vaccine for 5-11 Year Olds Available at Nationwide Children's
Late breaking news...vaccinations for children have just been approved in the United States.

We are blessed to have several St. Brigid parents who work at Nationwide Children's Hospital and they have sent the following late breaking information that vaccine appointments are already available for children at NCH. Please use the link below for more information. As Catholics we believe in taking care of the common good and this may be one way in which we can.

Thank you!

Congrats Wolfhound Football Teams!
Congrats to our many Wolfhound football players for a great fall season! Below are some recaps from each of the teams.

Team Bill:
Team Baumel 4th Grade had a successful season - with Cooper Musser and Luke Baumel each accounting for over 1,000 combined yards throwing/ running/ receiving. Jacob Dublikar and Stephen Freiburger were elite corners and receivers, as were Roshan Patel and Matt Dempsey at linebacker. Speedy Calvin Bihari tore up the field, as did Andrew Adorno in busting long touchdown runs. Benjamin Johnson was the extra point specialist finding the end zone and Brennan Norton had over 10 catches down the seam for first downs. Joshua Dempsey was on IR, but our biggest supporter.

Team Brian:
Overall, the team came together and played a great season. The players developed into a powerful defense and an offense which capitalized on strengths. Through a season of ups and downs, the team had fun while representing Catholic values on and off the field. This team can compete with any opponent.

5/6 Senior Reserve:
The St. Brigid 5/6 Sr. Reserve ended a successful return to football at Brigid's Green this year with a 3rd place finish in the diocese play. Coach Moeller, Coach Steinbrunner, Coach Seago and Coach Graff are extremely proud of the growth the team made this season and all of the hard work they put in over the last four months. The players really became a team and ran with the motto of Faith...Family...Football.. Go hounds and congratulations to Bradley DeScocio, Danny Schiavone, Delcan Barr, Evan Mooney, Franky Dziewiatkowski, Gus Graf, Jack McCurdy, Jaxon White, JD Seago, Max Steinbrunner, Mitch Parker, Nick Scott, Perry Santangelo, Reid Austin, Ronan O'Reilly & Sam Moeller.
Varsity:
The St Brigid Varsity finished out the season in a hard fought game with St Brendan. Although the win/lose record is not the outcome we had worked for, the boys continued to improve and never gave up! We also brought football back to St. Brigid and we know only good things are ahead of us based on what we see in the younger groups! All of our 7th graders expressed that they will be back next year, and we believe our 8th graders have the tools they need to move on and be successful in high school. We wish our 8th grade players the very best as they move on to high school as they have an abundance of football talent. Some of them have been in our program since 4th grade, congrats on a great youth and middle school career at SBKAA: Cade Shelley, Calin Shelley, Grant Mooney, JM Beuselinck, Luke Ishmael, Max Bartlett, Michael Freiburger, Ryan Lee, Rylan Bihari & Will Moeller.

And thank you to our many coaches and SBAA volunteers who worked many hours this season to allow our children to incorporate faith and fun into their football season!
Thank You to Everyone Who Has Donated to the Annual Fund!
Last Thursday the school enjoyed a day of festivities celebrating the Fall Harvest. This was made possible by your support! The Annual Fund donations pay for the parties planned by the Home and School Association. Please consider a once-a-year contribution of $100 per student ($50 for preschool) 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to school projects and activities that enrich the learning experience for your children.

Please click the below button to give to the Annual Fund, and/or forward this email to a family member or friend who may be interested in contributing.
Book Drive Thank You!
old_hard_cover_books.jpg
Our Christ Child Society Book Drive was an overwhelming success! We collected just under 2,000 new and gently used books for infants - age 7. Here is the spontaneous and very joyful reaction from the Christ Child Society representative:

"Oh my goodness-what a phenomenal turnout! I am overwhelmed with joy! I can't thank you enough for your participation and donations to this book drive. A big thank you to all of your students and staff for supporting Christ Child in this book drive. These books will reach so many children in need in the Columbus area. We are so grateful for your help in this effort! "
Paying Attention to TikTok
From Angelus News:

[Did you know that] TikTok has now overtaken YouTube when it comes to “average watch time” in the U.S. and the U.K. This development, according to the BBC, has “upended” the streaming and social media landscape.

Then a few days later I got another wake-up call about the reality of the context actually being served to our children via a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article, which detailed how “TikTok is Serving Up Sex and Drugs.”

Did you know that a 13-year-old can sign up for an account, search for a topic related to sex or drugs, and through TikTok’s algorithm be served a steady diet of sex and drugs as the primary videos they are shown as they scroll?
