The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

Veterans Day in the United States honors military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. It has its roots in Armistice Day, first celebrated on November 11, 1919, marking the first anniversary of the end of World War I. The date was chosen because the war formally ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.

In 1938, Armistice Day became a national holiday, originally intended to honor veterans of World War I. However, after World War II and the Korean War, there was a desire to honor veterans of all wars. In 1954, Congress amended the holiday, officially renaming it "Veterans Day."

Veterans Day differs from Memorial Day, which honors those who died in military service, by focusing on honoring all veterans, both living and deceased, who have served in the U.S. military.

We are honored to invite you to our upcoming St. Brigid’s Veteran’s Day Celebration, where we will gather to recognize and celebrate the service of all active and veteran military members within our community. It is a meaningful opportunity for us to express our gratitude and appreciation to those who have served.

Event Details:

  • Date: Monday, November 11th
  • Time: 1:45 PM
  • Location: St. Brigid School Gymnasium

Please join us if your schedule allows, and feel free to invite your loved ones who are veterans to share in this special celebration with us.

Wishing you autumn blessings and looking forward to commemorating this day together,

Kathy O'Reilly

Veteran's Days Assembly + Purple Star Application

Please help our school achieve the Purple Star School designation -- a recognition of schools that show their support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families.

As we work towards this designation, your participation is two-fold.

First, we would love the opportunity to honor and celebrate all of the active and veteran military members of the St. Brigid family at our upcoming St. Brigid's Veteran's Day Celebration. Please join us for our assembly on Monday, November 11th at 1:45pm. Please invite your loved one who is a veteran to attend.

Second, the data collected will be used to help St. Brigid School to receive an OHIO PURPLE STAR DESIGNATION, identifying St. Brigid as an exceptionally supportive school of military families.

Please click the link to the Sign Up Genius for more information and registration by Thursday, November 7.

We look forward to seeing you as we celebrate and honor our Veterans on Monday, November 11th.

Remember These Fundraisers?

This is how many schools raise money to fund all the programs, enhancements, celebrations, teacher support and appreciation that our Home and School plans throughout the year. The Annual Fund program started over 25 years ago to eliminate these labor intense fundraising events. These fundraisers only give back around 15%- 20% of the money they collect to the school. Family and friends felt pressured to buy items they did not need and there was a possibility of putting our children into unsafe situations while selling items door to door.

These are just a few reasons why we have the Annual Fund. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to school projects and activities that enrich the learning experience for your children.  If you would like to share this link with family and friends, they have the opportunity to support your children without having to buy anything and know that their donation is not only tax deductible but every dollar goes to St. Brigid of Kildare.

Please consider a once-a-year contribution of $125 per student ($50 for preschool).

Please click the below arrow to give to the Annual Fund, and/or forward this email to a family member or friend who may be interested in contributing.

Thank you to those families have already supported the Annual Fund.
