No School - Teacher Work Day

Dear Parents,

Students in grades 4-8 took some time, or will take some time, this week to review their Strengths Explorer Report.  You will also have an opportunity to review the report.  On Friday of this week, a golden, half sheet of paper will go home in the Friday Folder, which will provide you an access code and the steps to get to the Strengths Report.  Please take some time to review the report.

On Friday, you will also be receiving the Strengths Explorer Parent Guide.  Please keep this in a safe place, as we will be asking families to participate in activities outlined in the guide.  The first assignment will take place the week of October 15th.

October is traditionally viewed as the Month of the Rosary.  There are two wonderful opportunities  to join together as a Catholic faith community to pray the rosary.  The Diocesan Family Rosary Day is Sunday, October 14th at 3:00 pm, see story below for more details.  On Wednesday, October 17th we will pray the rosary together as a school community at 2:00 pm in the gym.  Please feel free to attend if your schedule allows.

Blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

Wellness Wednesdays Begin Today

As a school community we are planning to incorporate Wellness Wednesdays throughout the 2018 - 19 school year. We will concentrate on several key aspects of overall health and wellness including physical activity, sleep, nutrition, screen time and tech use, and spiritual health.

Today is our first Wellness Wednesday!  We will focus on "Move 60" to encourage students, families, and staff to move 60 minutes a day and to get the heart rate up. Students will take some time throughout the day to perform some "simple" exercises to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Feel free to challenge your family at home as well! We will focus on physical activity for the next several weeks with different educational pieces, events and incentives. Stay tuned for more information as we continue our celebration of Wellness!

Don't miss an opportunity to view  YOU: Life, Love and Theology of the Body

Did you miss last year's viewing of  YOU: Life, Love and Theology of the Body series? Maybe your kids weren't in the high school youth group, or you had a conflict? Maybe a series on love and relationships wasn't relevant last year, but your kids are getting older, and now it is?

If any of the above apply, then join Family First's Mom to Mom group as they continue their discussion of  YOU: Life, Love and Theology of the Body, an extraordinary DVD series made for teens and their parents to explore the teachings of St. John Paul II and how they relate to love and relationships.  Watch the  trailer to preview the series. Erin Heise will facilitate our second discussion on October 16 9:30-11 in Hendrick's Hall on the topics of "Original Innocence", "Spousal Meaning of the Body" and "The Fall".  Mom to Mom's complete Fall Schedule can be accessed  here.

Meals  on  Wheels  Delivery Opportunity
Informational Meeting October 11

There is a strong need to provide and deliver meals for the elderly in Columbus. You and your family have the chance to partner with LifeCare Alliance's Meals on Wheels program to help keep our aging neighbors in their homes, where they want to be. Our children will see the good they are doing in their community by handing over a hot meal to someone in need, while spending some quality time with their family.

This summer, we "adopted" our own route, which we run M-F every week. We are looking to recruit an additional 10-12 families to join the 20 or so of us that are currently servicing this route. You can work the route as frequently or as infrequently as you would like, but we are asking for a commitment of at least once per month.

Meals will be picked up at 10:45 am at Dublin Community church in downtown Dublin.  Our route takes a little over an hour to complete. We will have an informational meeting and training session on Thursday, October 11 at 10:00 am (immediately following Mass) in Hendricks Hall. Please contact Nancy Davis at 336-337-4421 to RSVP, or with any other questions you might have.
