The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

This has been a beautiful week of Autumn weather!  We have several opportunities for Fall Fun coming up in the next few weeks.  Our annual Barn Bash is planned for October 20th. See the story below for details and a reminder that ticket prices will increase this coming Thursday.  Our room parents are currently working with our teachers to plan a Fall Festival party on Friday, October 27th.  Our Annual Fund supports the treats and games for this annual classroom party.  Students are invited to wear costumes on this day if they wish.  In place of a costume, students may choose a fall color dress down day, or they may wear sweatshirts or t-shirts recognizing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos.

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines

  • Make them simple, easy to wear all day, and not too hot or cold.
  • Face masks that cover the entire face and/or head (examples-Spiderman, clown, skeleton, etc.) are not allowed.
  • Inflatable costumes will not be allowed.
  • Please limit accessories (like wings, crowns, wands) that will be difficult to handle at school, or could be lost or broken.  Also, violent props such as pistols, knives, or swords are not permitted.
  • Costumes may not have scary/bloody masks/clothes.
  • Costumes may not obstruct the student’s view or ability to do work in the classroom.
  • Costumes may not be inappropriately revealing, such as shorts, mini skirts, bare midriffs, or low cut tops.
  • Costumes may not be offensive or make a political statement in any way.
  • Please no make-up

Please check your child’s costume or dress down day outfit, and make sure they are following the guidelines. Thank you!

In the story below we are inviting all of our parents to participate in a survey to give us feedback during our current self study phase, as a part of our Accreditation process.  It is important that we receive feedback from our whole community including teachers, staff, parents and students (grades 5 - 8). Thank you in advance for taking the time to participate.

Enjoy and celebrate the many blessings of autumn; continue to pray the rosary and take care of each other!

School Accreditation Parent Survey: Please Complete

St. Brigid of Kildare School is accredited through The Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association (OCSAA).  The purpose of the OCSAA is to strengthen Catholic school identity and mission and to engage Catholic schools in the ongoing improvement of student learning. To be accredited means that we are recognized as having a particular status which in our case is that we are a chartered school in the state of Ohio. In our setting, we go through an accreditation cycle every six years. This year, we are starting a new cycle and are involved with the self study process, taking a look at our staff, school, and community profiles, as well as revisiting our mission statement and creating two new goals, a student learning goal and a catholic identity goal.

Please complete the parent survey at the link below by October 23rd. These results will help with our self study process.

If you have any questions regarding the parent survey, please email Jill Carfagna at [email protected].

Congrats Girls Tennis Team

The St. Brigid girls tennis team wrapped up their season this week, and it's safe to say that it was a season filled with dedication, hard work, and impressive growth. Coaches Leah, Niki, Lori and Colleen are incredibly proud of this team and the remarkable progress each girl made throughout the season.

It's not just about the wins and losses; it's about the personal victories, the friendships formed, and the skills developed along the way. This team consistently demonstrated the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie - and that's what makes our St. Brigid Girls Tennis Team special.

Congratulations on a fantastic season!

Congrats Girls JV Volleyball Team

The 7th grade girls junior varsity volleyball team played St. Matthew, a tough opponent, on Sunday. The girls came from behind to win the first set and then kept the momentum going in the second set to achieve a straight set victory!

The girls showed amazing team spirit and helped each other to shake off missed points to get right back into a winning mindset.

Congratulations to our teammates who attend St. Brigid - Maeve Baumgartner, Gia Lombardi, Victoria Nocco, Mel Prevedello, Anabelle Robinson, Mary Schilling and Sarah Ziegler.

Family First Fall Service- Stems for Seniors

Stems for Seniors repurposes wedding flowers that are donated, and then redistributes them to seniors in our community through organizations like Meals on Wheels, Kobacher, and other senior living centers. They use up-cycled cans and jars as “vases” for a good portion of our deliveries.

We are asking for your help in helping us collect empty 15 oz cans from vegetables, soup, etc. We ask that you clean the cans and remove the labels. If by chance, you have a smooth edge can opener to use when you initially open the cans, that would be great, otherwise, they will smooth out the rough edges to prevent injury to our recipients. We have also found “mason” type, pint size jars from pickles, jellies, etc. work quite well, too.

Family First will be collecting cans and jars at our Mom to Mom meetings through November 15th. For more information visit Stemsforseniors.org or contact our Family First Service Chair Susan Adorno at [email protected].

Catholic Support for Women

Our state is facing a change to the constitution that threatens pregnant women and preborn children. Just as Jesus defended vulnerable women, the Catholic Church in Ohio stands in radical solidarity with pregnant women and those affected by abortion through various ministries:

  • Walking with Moms in Need–Offers material resources such as clothing, food, and baby supplies, and personal accompaniment to pregnant women
  • Catholic Charities–Sponsors educational programs for expecting mothers and fathers and accompanies families into parenting; Supports families with programs related tohousing, food insecurity, and other needs
  • Project Rachel–Provides confidential post-abortive healing to women and men affectedby abortion

The Catholic Church in Ohio also advocates for the needs of mothers, children, and families. The Catholic voice in public policy has helped build a culture of life in Ohio by eliminating sales tax on baby products, investing money in housing for pregnant women, extending a cash assistance program through all months of pregnancy, and creating a new doula program to address infant and maternal mortality rates. As Catholics, we must support women and children in need by Voting NO on Issue 1.
