The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. As a school family we will be gathering together today to pray the rosary at 2:00 pm in the gym. Please feel free to join us if your schedule allows.

This coming Friday our Home and School will be sponsoring the annual Barn Bash! This is a great family gathering and a celebration of all things fall. Please keep in mind that this event is well attended and is only for St. Brigid families. In order to keep the event safe and fun for everyone all children need to be supervised. We are watching the weather closely and are working on a rescheduled rain date if the weather requires it. Please watch for a text and email on Friday for an official decision.

As our Fall Harvest parties approach next week on October 27th and you are planning costumes, please make sure you check the guidelines in the article below. Additionally, we are planning to have a Fall pep rally at 9:00 am in the gym on this same day to recognize all of our Wolfhound athletes. We will be especially honoring our 8th graders! Please feel free to join us at 9:00 am in the gym if your schedule allows.

In between all of the fall festivities please take time to participate in our parent survey to help us gather information for our self study as a part of the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. The deadline is October 23rd and we would like to have input from all of our school families. See the link in the story below.

After you take the survey please take a minute to mark on your calendar November 7th at 6:30 pm for our Crucial Conversation series. Professional Clinical Counselor and former campus minister, Laura Lewis, will share ideas and strategies about emotional wellness -- touching on anxiety, depression and the role of mental health. She brings practical ideas and strategies to integrate mental and emotional wellness into your daily family life. In particular, Laura talks about the use of prayer, including meditation, the Examen and Lectio Divina which are all types of prayer we have been teaching our students over the last few years. I asked Laura to do a similar presentation last year for our school faculty and our staff agreed it was the best speaker they have ever heard on the topic of emotional wellness and prayer. Our staff encouraged me to arrange for her to talk with our families so that you would have the same opportunity to hear her suggestions. Laura is an amazing speaker, and your family will greatly benefit from this time well spent.

Autumn blessings,

Kathy O’Reilly

School Accreditation Parent Survey: Please Complete by Oct 23

St. Brigid of Kildare School is accredited through The Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association (OCSAA).  The purpose of the OCSAA is to strengthen Catholic school identity and mission and to engage Catholic schools in the ongoing improvement of student learning. To be accredited means that we are recognized as having a particular status which in our case is that we are a chartered school in the state of Ohio. In our setting, we go through an accreditation cycle every six years. This year, we are starting a new cycle and are involved with the self study process, taking a look at our staff, school, and community profiles, as well as revisiting our mission statement and creating two new goals, a student learning goal and a catholic identity goal.

Please complete the parent survey at the link below by October 23rd. These results will help with our self study process.

If you have any questions regarding the parent survey, please email Jill Carfagna at [email protected].

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines

Our room parents are currently working with our teachers to plan a Fall Festival party on Friday, October 27th.  Our Annual Fund supports the treats and games for this annual classroom party. Students are invited to wear costumes on this day if they wish. In place of a costume, students may choose a fall color dress down day, or they may wear sweatshirts or t-shirts recognizing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos.

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines

  • Make them simple, easy to wear all day, and not too hot or cold.
  • Face masks that cover the entire face and/or head (examples-Spiderman, clown, skeleton, etc.) are not allowed.
  • Inflatable costumes will not be allowed.
  • Please limit accessories (like wings, crowns, wands) that will be difficult to handle at school, or could be lost or broken. Also, violent props such as pistols, knives, or swords are not permitted.
  • Costumes may not have scary/bloody masks/clothes.
  • Costumes may not obstruct the student’s view or ability to do work in the classroom.
  • Costumes may not be inappropriately revealing, such as shorts, mini skirts, bare midriffs, or low cut tops.
  • Costumes may not be offensive or make a political statement in any way.
  • Please no make-up

Please check your child’s costume or dress down day outfit, and make sure they are following the guidelines. Thank you!

Show Your Teachers & Staff Appreciation by Donating to the Annual Fund

Show your appreciation for our amazing teachers and staff by supporting the Annual Fund!

St. Brigid of Kildare School is blessed to have devoted and committed teachers and staff who make our school community a family. One of the many programs supported by your Annual Fund donation is teacher and staff appreciation. The Home and School hospitality plans luncheons, breakfasts, and snack breaks throughout the year to thank our teachers and staff for their hard work supporting our children.

Thank you to all the families that have supported the Annual Fund. If you have not, please consider donating to this important program.

Above is pictured one of the many appreciation events that are planned by the Home and School and funded by the Annual Fund to support our teachers and staff.

Early Voting on Issue 1

The Catholic Church honors Mary, the Mother of God, as the perfect model of the love that God wants to share with every person. When Catholics look to Mary, her cousin Elizabeth, or her ancestor Ruth, we see that God’s plan for the world’s salvation was entrusted to women. In Ohio, an amendment on this November’s ballot puts women at risk and the Catholic Church cannot stand by as women are threatened in our state. The Catholic bishops of Ohio urge the faithful to Vote NO on Issue 1, which puts women at risk by…

·      Endangering health and safety standards for women – Ohio laws that require that a woman has guaranteed access to a hospital during an abortion in case of an emergency or the 24-hour waiting period before having an abortion could be struck down.

Issue 1 claims to help women, but this policy would put women at risk. Our faith teaches us that pregnant women deserve a community of support, so Catholics cannot be silent when an extreme amendment threatens to remove protections for women’s health and safety.

Learn more at www.ohiocathconf.org/protect.

Your vote is needed to save Ohio from this extreme amendment. Look up your early voting location at www.voteohio.org and protect women in Ohio by Voting NO on Issue 1.

The Catholic Conference of Ohio is the official voice of the Catholic Church in Ohio on public policy, advocating for the dignity of life at all stages, immigrants, Ohioans in need, and Catholic education. www.ohiocathconf.org
