The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,

During the week of October 14th, students in grades three through eight will be taking the Terra Nova test, a standardized test adopted by the Diocese of Columbus. The diocese mandates testing in grades three through eight. Testing will occur on each day of the week, Monday-Friday.

As in the past, we ask that parents do a couple of things to help their child do his/her best.

  • Don’t plan any appointments that would cause your child to miss a portion of a test.
  • Make sure that your child is in bed at a time to ensure that he/she has sufficient sleep to function well.
  • Have your child eat a good breakfast before coming to school.

Thank you for your help in supporting our students during this week of testing.

October is traditionally the month of the rosary. Next week we will be praying the rosary together as a school community. Please plan to join us on Wednesday, October 16th at 2:00 pm in the gym if your schedule allows. Additionally, the Diocese of Columbus is sponsoring Family Rosary Day this Sunday, October 13th at 3:00 pm at St. Joseph Cathedral. See more details in the story below.

Autumn Blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

First CARE Meeting of the Year
Our students had their first CARE meeting of the school year last week. Students learned more about this year's school theme We are the Now of God. They discussed their strengths and how they use them to serve God. Students also received Now of God song flip books. These flip books helped students remember lyrics to the new song they learned called Now of God. The meeting ended with the whole school in the gym singing the new Now of God song.
Crucial Conversations: Tackling Anxiety
Anxiety is skyrocketing. How can we help?
The numbers have been rising steadily; between 2007 and 2012, anxiety disorders in children and teens went up 20%. The rate of hospital admissions for suicidal teenagers has doubled over the past decade. What’s causing this rise and how did we get here?

Laura Lewis, Clinical Counselor and Assistant Director of the Suicide Prevention Program at The Ohio State University will explain the recent rise of anxious kids, and share tips to help your child manage and reduce anxiety. The seminar will discuss common anxiety catalysts such as academic pressure and social media, as well as the positive impact of faith, family life and relationships. The evening will begin with prayerful meditation and will end with table talk and time for questions and answers. This presentation is suitable for parents of children of all ages.
