In science, fifth grade students researched a specific planet. They are working with their classmates to learn how to work together as a group to present and “teach” classmates about assigned planets. | |
The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,
This Friday, we’ll celebrate Saint Brigid Spirit Day with a Pep Rally at 1:45 p.m. Students and staff can enjoy a dress-down day and are encouraged to wear spirit wear! Our autumn athletes are invited to wear their jerseys or team shirts. Parents are welcome to join us for the Pep Rally, which will be held in the gym.
Next week, we will enjoy our Annual Fund sponsored Fall Festival on October 31st, where students can wear costumes or fall colors. Please note a change in our schedule for next week’s school Mass. Students will attend the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Friday, November 1st for the Feast of All Saints. We invite you to join us if your schedule allows.
All Saints Day offers us an opportunity to reflect on the kind and courageous actions of the saints and how we can follow their example. In today’s world, we need as many ways as possible to share the Gospel’s messages of hope, kindness, and respect. During November, our students will study the lives of the saints, using these role models to inspire us to evangelize and spread Seeds of Hope.
Wishing you continued blessings this autumn,
Kathy O'Reilly

Help Shrink the Lost and Found!
Cool mornings with warm afternoons are perfect conditions for lost sweatshirts and outerwear! Here are some tips to keep your items with you and out of the school’s lost and found:
- Label all sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, etc. with your child’s name (or even last name if it won’t fit!), not initials. There are customizable labels out there but using Sharpie on Avery non-iron tags is an inexpensive and easy way to protect your investment! Labeled items are more likely to be returned to your family rather than heading to the lost and found.
- If you’ve obtained an item from the Uniform Exchange check to see if it has already been labeled and do your best to re-label so the item isn’t “returned” to the prior family when misplaced.
- Label water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. Many look the same!
When an item becomes lost:
- Ask your child to search for the item in the lost and found (located in the cafeteria) during his/her lunchtime. Parents are welcome to come into the school to search also.
- Items of value (cash, phones, etc.) will be taken to the office receptionist for safekeeping.
Unclaimed items will be donated following the uniform exchange on Feb 23, 2025.

Quarters for Carolina
The 8th Grade Faith and Service Committee are asking for students' help!
We would like to start “Quarters for Carolina” in order to help hurricane victims in North Carolina. There will be collection bins outside each grade level’s classrooms. We will collect quarters beginning Thursday, October 17th through Friday, October 25th.
There will also be a station at Barn Bash to donate quarters for the hurricane victims. The station will be located near the snacks. There are still around 600 people missing in North Carolina, with rescue workers working day and night to help victims. Roads have simply disappeared, houses washed away, and people are left with almost nothing. People in North Carolina were never expecting this damage, and they weren’t prepared for the massive flooding and rain that happened. We want to do our part in helping them as much as we can, and we hope that you will join us. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines
Our room parents are currently working with teachers to plan a Fall Festival party on Thursday, October 31st. Our Annual Fund will support the treats and games for this annual classroom party. As a second opportunity for a fun dress-down day, students are invited to wear costumes on this day if they wish. Alternatively, students may choose a fall color dress-down day or wear sweatshirts or t-shirts representing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos.
Fall Festival Costume Guidelines:
- Keep costumes simple, easy to wear all day, and appropriate for the weather.
- Face masks that cover the entire face or head (e.g., Spiderman, clown, skeleton) are not allowed.
- Inflatable costumes are not permitted.
- Limit accessories (such as wings, crowns, wands) that might be difficult to manage at school or easily lost or broken. Violent props such as pistols, knives, or swords are not allowed.
- Costumes should not include scary or bloody masks/clothes.
- Costumes should not obstruct the student’s view or ability to work in the classroom.
- Costumes must not be inappropriately revealing (e.g., shorts, mini skirts, bare midriffs, or low-cut tops).
- Costumes must not be offensive or make political statements.
- Please no makeup.
Please check your child’s costume or dress-down day outfit to ensure it follows these guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation!

Crucial Conversations Topic: Wait Until 8th
Wait Until 8th is a non-profit organization that empowers parents to say yes to waiting for the smartphone.
The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade. Let’s protect the elementary and middle school years from the distractions and the dangers of a smartphone. Banding together helps decrease the pressure to have a phone at an early age. Ten years old is the average age children get their first smartphone. You can change this!
These devices are quickly changing childhood for children. Playing outdoors, spending time with friends, reading books and hanging out with family is happening a lot less to make room for hours of snap chatting, instagramming, and catching up on YouTube.
Parents feel powerless in this uphill battle and need community support to help delay the ever-evolving presence of the smartphone in the classroom, social arena and family dinner table. Link arms with other parents to wait until at least the end of eighth grade for a smartphone!
Childhood is too short to waste on a smartphone. Learn more about Wait Until 8th or take the pledge today at the link below!

Did you know the Annual Fund supports the After School Learning & Service Opportunities (ALSO) Program?
Each year students in 5th-8th grade have the opportunity to join one of these programs. They offer a wide range of interests and subjects so there is something for every student. A few include Garden Club, Baking Class, Hobby Club, Card Club, the Spring Musical, Puzzles and Games, Battle of the Books, Prayer Club, Wolfhound Running/Intramural Sports Club, and Power of the Pen and Pencil. These programs allow students to explore their talents outside of class and offer an
opportunity for socialization and personal growth. The Annual Fund provides supplies and
stipends for the teachers.
Pictured above: Deacon Paul joined 4th-8th graders for their first Prayer Club meeting!
Prayer Club is an example of the ALSO program where students join to grow closer to Jesus through different forms of prayer, prayer buddies, praise, and worship.
Please consider supporting the Annual Fund so St. Brigid of Kildare can continue to offer these opportunities to our students.

The Annual Fund has raised over $36,000 from 185 families to support the activities of our
Home and School. Thank you to all the families that have donated! (List below updated 10/22/24).

Interested in Becoming Catholic? OCIA Sign Up
"Hello! My name is Pamela. I attended the OCIA program at Saint Brigid. Our class was one of the largest and I was honored to be a part of it. I met many wonderful people and learned what it means to be Catholic. It is a way of life, love and charity in the name of Jesus. I've always loved Jesus although I didn't feel like I knew him. I was raised Methodist. I raised three Catholic children and saw their faith. I went through the program with my teenage grandson. My relationship with Jesus is now very personal. I'm thankful I walked into my grandson's room that day and asked him if he still wanted to become Catholic. He said 'yes' and I said 'me too'." — Pamela (OCIA class of 2024)
If you are interested in becoming Catholic, or just learning more about the process, visit our OCIA (formerly known as RCIA) webpage and complete an inquiry form at www.stbrigidofkildare.org/ocia
