The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

This week we look forward to celebrating our annual Fall Harvest Parties! Students are invited to enjoy a fall colors dress-down day or wear school-appropriate costumes on Thursday, October 30th. Please be sure to review the costume and celebration guidelines included in the full story below. In the event of inclement weather, the costume parade and parent social will be canceled. Communication for cancellation will be sent out via FACTS on Thursday.

Please note that school Mass this week will be held on Wednesday. The registration form was included in last week’s Friday Folder. To help us maintain safety and accountability, we ask that parents who wish to sit with their child during Mass wait until the class is seated, then meet your child to sit together. After Mass, please return your child to their teacher. If you plan to take your child home at the end of the day, kindly send a note in the morning to make them a car rider. They will be dismissed to you at regular car rider dismissal.

Next week, on Thursday, November 6th, we will honor All Saints Day as a school community with a special Mass. The celebration will begin with a procession of our 1st and 2nd graders, who will wear stoles and medals representing the saints they have studied this month. Our student cantors will lead a moving Litany of the Saints to make the celebration especially meaningful.

Finally, please help us spread the word about our upcoming Open House for prospective preschool and kindergarten families on Thursday, November 13th, from 4:30–6:30 p.m. We look forward to welcoming new families to experience the joy of our St. Brigid community!

Picture retakes will be next Tuesday, November 4 in the morning.

Autumn blessings,

Kathy O’Reilly

Fall Harvest Parties

Our room parents are currently working with teachers to plan a Fall Festival party on Thursday, October 30th. Our Annual Fund will support the treats and games for this annual classroom party.

Please Note: In the event of inclement weather, the costume parade and parent social will be canceled. Communication for cancellation will be sent out via FACTS on Thursday.

More details came home in Friday Folder emails from homeroom teachers.

Students are invited to wear costumes on this day if they wish. Alternatively, students may choose a fall color dress-down day or wear sweatshirts or t-shirts representing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos.

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines:

  • Keep costumes simple, easy to wear all day, and appropriate for the weather.
  • Face masks that cover the entire face or head (e.g., Spiderman, clown, skeleton) are not allowed.
  • Inflatable costumes are not permitted.
  • Limit accessories (such as wings, crowns, wands) that might be difficult to manage at school or easily lost or broken. Violent props such as pistols, knives, or swords are not allowed.
  • Costumes should not include scary or bloody masks/clothes.
  • Costumes should not obstruct the student’s view or ability to work in the classroom.
  • Costumes must not be inappropriately revealing (e.g., shorts, mini skirts, bare midriffs, or low-cut tops).
  • Costumes must not be offensive or make political statements.
  • No makeup or tattoos.

Please check your child’s costume or dress-down day outfit to ensure it follows these guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation!

Your Annual Fund Dollars Support Our Fall Harvest Parties

This week your students will enjoy a day of festivities celebrating the Fall Harvest. There will be costumes, parades, snacks, games and activities. Students look

forward to events like this throughout the year.

Events like this are made possible by your support! The Annual Fund donations pay for the parties planned by the Home and School Association. Please consider a

once-a-year contribution of $125 per student ($50 for preschool). 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to school projects and activities that enrich the learning experience for your children. Thank you to everyone that has donated to the Annual Fund, we could not have these events without you! Happy Harvest!

Please consider supporting the Annual Fund so St. Brigid of Kildare can continue to offer these opportunities to our students.

Thank you to our many families who have already supported the 2025-26 Annual Fund (as of October 27, 2025).

When Online Sharing Becomes Digital Breadcrumbs

An article from Common Sense Media:

We share photos to remember the good stuff. But every photo posted online also remembers us.

AI tools can easily read backgrounds, landmarks, and even the hidden metadata we forget exists, and assemble a surprisingly detailed portrait of our lives. That data is up for grabs, feeding everything from hyper-targeted ads to scammers searching for personal details worth exploiting.

We all post to stay connected. But the more we share, the clearer the map becomes for anyone looking. Everyday details like street signs, coffee cup logos, even the reflection in a window can reveal more than we realize. None of this is new—what's changed is how fast AI can read and connect it all. With a single photo dump, someone could piece together your neighborhood, your child's school, and even your daily routine.

Now, it's unlikely this happens every time you share a post, but it's worth knowing what's possible. Because it's not just about keeping your own data private, it's about teaching our kids how to think before they share, too.

So what do we do with that?

Pause before you post.

We can share personal info online without it being identifiable.

Connection doesn't have to mean overexposure. Sharing is how we stay in touch, find community, and learn new things. So do a quick scan of what AI (and everyone else) might recognize, store, or reuse.

The same goes for new accounts and apps:

  • Choose usernames instead of real names.
  • Skip any "optional" personal info.
  • Remember: Data shared once can live online forever.
