The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

This week we have several celebrations planned, including our Fall Harvest parties and the Feast of All Saints. Students are invited to enjoy a fall colors dress-down day or wear school-appropriate costumes on Thursday, October 31st. Please check the guidelines in the full story below.

On Friday, November 1st, we will celebrate the Feast of All Saints by attending 9:00 am Mass together as a school community. Mass will begin with a procession of our 1st and 2nd graders, who will be wearing stoles and medals with the names of the saints they are studying this month. Additionally, our student cantors will lead us in a beautiful Litany of the Saints to make our celebration extra special. We look forward to having many parents, grandparents, and community members join us on this special day.

Please help spread the word about our upcoming Open House for prospective preschool and kindergarten students, which will take place on November 14th from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.

Also, we are still looking to add another teacher to our 4th-grade team. If you know someone who might be interested, please feel free to share the job posting found below.

Autumn blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

Help Shrink the Lost and Found!

Cool mornings with warm afternoons are perfect conditions for lost sweatshirts and outerwear! Here are some tips to keep your items with you and out of the school’s lost and found:

  • Label all sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, etc. with your child’s name (or even last name if it won’t fit!), not initials. There are customizable labels out there but using Sharpie on Avery non-iron tags is an inexpensive and easy way to protect your investment! Labeled items are more likely to be returned to your family rather than heading to the lost and found.
  • If you’ve obtained an item from the Uniform Exchange check to see if it has already been labeled and do your best to re-label so the item isn’t “returned” to the prior family when misplaced.
  • Label water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. Many look the same!

When an item becomes lost:

  • Ask your child to search for the item in the lost and found (located in the cafeteria) during his/her lunchtime. Parents are welcome to come into the school to search also.
  • Items of value (cash, phones, etc.) will be taken to the office receptionist for safekeeping.

Unclaimed items will be donated following the uniform exchange on Feb 23, 2025.

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines

Our room parents are currently working with teachers to plan a Fall Festival party on Thursday, October 31st. Our Annual Fund will support the treats and games for this annual classroom party. As a second opportunity for a fun dress-down day, students are invited to wear costumes on this day if they wish. Alternatively, students may choose a fall color dress-down day or wear sweatshirts or t-shirts representing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos.

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines:

  • Keep costumes simple, easy to wear all day, and appropriate for the weather.
  • Face masks that cover the entire face or head (e.g., Spiderman, clown, skeleton) are not allowed.
  • Inflatable costumes are not permitted.
  • Limit accessories (such as wings, crowns, wands) that might be difficult to manage at school or easily lost or broken. Violent props such as pistols, knives, or swords are not allowed.
  • Costumes should not include scary or bloody masks/clothes.
  • Costumes should not obstruct the student’s view or ability to work in the classroom.
  • Costumes must not be inappropriately revealing (e.g., shorts, mini skirts, bare midriffs, or low-cut tops).
  • Costumes must not be offensive or make political statements.
  • Please no makeup.

Please check your child’s costume or dress-down day outfit to ensure it follows these guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation!
