The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

This week, we had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary by praying the rosary together. Our 7th-grade students served as prayer leaders and created a beautiful visual by forming a living rosary on the gym floor. Pope Leo has invited everyone to pray the rosary during October, the traditional month of the rosary. In a recent address to the faithful, he stated:

“I invite everyone to pray the rosary every day during October—for peace—personally, with your families, and in your communities.”

Our room parents are currently working with teachers to plan Fall Festival classroom parties on Thursday, October 31. Our Annual Fund will support the treats and games for this annual celebration. As a second opportunity for a fun dress-down day, students are invited to wear costumes if they wish. Alternatively, students may choose to dress in fall colors or wear sweatshirts or T-shirts representing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos. Please see the article below for details regarding the Fall Festival Costume Guidelines.

I look forward to seeing you during our conference evenings tonight and tomorrow.

Autumn blessings,

Kathy O’Reilly

Did You Know? Our School Lost & Found is Next to the Gym

It’s the time of year when students begin wearing outerwear . . . and leaving it everywhere. Here’s how you can help keep those items where they should be—with your child!

Label your investment:

  • Label all outwear and layering pieces with your child’s name (e.g, Erin Heise or E. HEISE). Initials only are too time-consuming for others to decode. Avery non-iron tags are an inexpensive and easy to use.
  • If you’ve obtained an item from the Uniform Exchange and it already has a label, re-label it so the item isn’t “returned” to the original owner when lost.
  • Label water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. Many look the same!

When an Item Becomes Lost:

  • Ask your child to visit the lost and found during his/her lunchtime if (s)he is missing an item.
  • Parents are welcome to pop in to check for items during the school day.
  • Items of value (cash, phones, etc.) will be taken to the office receptionist for safekeeping.

Fall Harvest Parties

Our room parents are currently working with teachers to plan a Fall Festival party on Thursday, October 30th. Our Annual Fund will support the treats and games for this annual classroom party.

More details will be coming home in Friday Folder emails from homeroom teachers.

Students are invited to wear costumes on this day if they wish. Alternatively, students may choose a fall color dress-down day or wear sweatshirts or t-shirts representing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos.

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines:

  • Keep costumes simple, easy to wear all day, and appropriate for the weather.
  • Face masks that cover the entire face or head (e.g., Spiderman, clown, skeleton) are not allowed.
  • Inflatable costumes are not permitted.
  • Limit accessories (such as wings, crowns, wands) that might be difficult to manage at school or easily lost or broken. Violent props such as pistols, knives, or swords are not allowed.
  • Costumes should not include scary or bloody masks/clothes.
  • Costumes should not obstruct the student’s view or ability to work in the classroom.
  • Costumes must not be inappropriately revealing (e.g., shorts, mini skirts, bare midriffs, or low-cut tops).
  • Costumes must not be offensive or make political statements.
  • Please no makeup.

Please check your child’s costume or dress-down day outfit to ensure it follows these guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation!
