The O'Reilly Minute

Dear Parents,

We will be holding our first school safety drill of the school year today. The State of Ohio requires three School Safety Drills each year in addition to our traditional fire and tornado drills.  For this drill, our teachers and students will practice evacuation out of the building including a discussion of alternate escape routes.

Students will discuss with their teachers options for relocation.  In case of an unlikely real incident, students are instructed  to run so they no longer can see the building, then work their way to Karrer Middle School or Brigid’s Green, if they can do so safely.  Once in a safe location, parents will be contacted.  This is the relocation map that was shared with our students.

Several parents have requested some tips to use when talking to their children about school safety drills or violence in general. Below are several links with great suggestions for parents and teachers:

Bruce McKenna has trained our school for many years in preparation for these unlikely events and required drills.  Please feel free to reach out to him as a resource.  He can be reached at [email protected] or 614-718-5825 ext. 276 (Please keep in mind our drills utilize principles of A.L.I.C.E training and not lockdown trainings)

Mr. McKenna is the featured speaker next week for our Crucial Conversation series.  He will be sharing details about our safety enhancements and help answer any questions you may have.  Please see the article below for more information and to RSVP.

School pictures and Student Led Conferences are just around the corner.  Please see the sotries below for a link to purchase school pictures and the link to schedule your Student Led Conference.

September Blessings,

Kathy O’Reilly

P.S. This Friday, September 22nd, students and staff will have a college spirit wear dress down day.  Students are invited to wear OSU, Notre Dame, other favorite college colors or St. Brigid colors are always fun!

Volleyball Blue Card Award for Sportmanship

The 8th grade girls’ volleyball team had a spirited game against St. Andrew's at our school gymnasium this weekend. Many of the 8th grade classmates showed up to cheer the team on and the Referee stopped the game to award the cheering section a Diocese Blue Card for sportsmanship. He explained to the crowd that the card is given at the discretion of the Referee, and how proud he was of the cheering section for their encouragement and respectful cheering.

Thank you and congratulations to our 8th graders for showing great school spirit!

The Rescue Project

September 13—November 15

The Rescue Project tells us that the most urgent task in the church is the compelling proclamation of the gospel, one that offers people a way of seeing reality, and of making sense of the world, history, and life, that is vastly different from the story our modern culture tells.

We invite you to join us for the Rescue Project! Together we can discover The Story.

There are four ways to participate this fall:

  •  Sisters in Christ - Join a community of women in prayer and study. Wednesdays, 1:15-2:45 PM, Deacon’s Room
  • Wednesday Evening Group - Join other parishioners in this study/small groups. Wednesdays, 7-8:30 PM, Berry Room
  • Thursday Morning Group - Join other parishioners in this study/small groups. Thursdays, 10—11:30 AM, Berry Room
