Hat and Glove Drive
Our annual Hat and Glove drive starts December 4th and will end December 15th. We are collecting hats, gloves, and warm winter clothing for both NC students and our feeder elementary schools. There will be donation boxes around the school to drop off gently used winter clothing. Gender neutral colors are preferred, but anything helps. Thanks NC!

Each year, the Washington Music Educator’s Association (WMEA) holds auditions for all-state music ensembles. Thousands of students audition for a spot in only nine large music ensembles, including band, choir, and orchestra. Students who win a spot get the opportunity to work with guest conductors and perform a concert program for the annual WMEA conference in front of families, community members, and other students from around the state. This year, out of 1900 applicants, NC music is proud to be represented by 7 outstanding musicians:
- Eva Iannelli – flute, Symphony Orchestra
- Zach Schlettert – trumpet, Symphony Orchestra
- Sam Parker – viola, Symphony Orchestra
- Everett Bodnar – percussion, Chamber Orchestra
- Isaiah Stubbs – percussion, Concert Band
- Dylan Simmons – euphonium, Concert Band
- Joseph Gagne – French horn, Philharmonic Winds

We are incredibly proud of these students! Their commitment to excellence in music is inspiring, and we know they will represent NC well!!

North Central DECA Members Attend Fall Leadership Academy in Bellevue, WA
North Central DECA members spent two days in Bellevue, WA attending the Fall Leadership Conference where they “Accelerated” their DECA year along with 2,000 other students. They attended workshops hosted by business leaders in the Seattle-Bellevue area. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in more than 20 workshops. Some of the workshops included: Budgeting, How to Make Your Passions Profitable and Start a Business and Setting and Reaching Your Goals. While attending these breakout sessions, participants were required to wear business professional attire.
Another activity they were involved in was the Idea to Impact Challenge. In this event, groups of 3 were challenged to find a problem in our local community and create a business pitch to help solve the issue. These ideas included building an apartment complex for single moms struggling with cancer, creating a program to help unhoused people get job experience, and to increase the amount of fresh food citizens can get their hands on to reduce food insecurity by planting climate-controlled gardens on rooftops.
They presented their ideas to a panel of judges and were scored on professional standards such as their attire and confidence, the solution they proposed, and the unique value that their business would contribute to the community.
Attendee Quotes:
“The most valuable thing I took away from the conference was that despite challenges you can be successful with a great team around you.” – Ellie Bartlett, Senior DECA Secretary and Store Manager
“My favorite part about Fall Leadership Conference was getting closer with my chapter.” – Hazel Guieb, DECA member
“At FLC, I was able to present in front of judges, challenging me to solve problems, to requiring me to think quickly on my feet. I also had the opportunity to network with other people. These are all skills that are going to be useful for any career.” – Marlee Schoeffler, Senior DECA Member

Whitworth Partners with NC Science
Kraig Wheeler, professor of chemistry, and Diana Schepens, assistant professor of mathematics & computer science, have been awarded a $434,000 National Science Foundation Research in Undergraduate Institutions (RUI) grant to develop mathematical and chemical models for probing complex recognition profiles of small molecules over three years. This collaborative project will give Whitworth students, as well as Parker Britton, a North Central High School teacher, and his students, access to innovative research in the materials sciences.
