Celebration of Indigenous Culture
NC's third annual celebration of Indigenous Culture hosted by our Shades club on Thursday, November 9th was a success. NC student Taylena Bigsmoke and her auntie Jamie were the keynote speakers. Frybread, painting Ojibwa florals and vision boards were enjoyed by all. Thanks to our Native Ed Department, Shades, and the Spokane Wellness Coalition for making this event possible.
Veteran's Day Convocation
The Veteran Day Convocation started with a warm welcome from our ASB Secretary, Vance, who introduced the star-banner singers of Makenzie Worline, Yvanny Nyiramahirwe, and Ava Brunstetter. Then, a short history, a description of the importance of Veteran's Day, and a video was provided by Tommy Elliott, before our two wonderful speakers-Daniel Bonaparte and Joshua Smith-shared their respective army and air force background. They also shared how beneficial the military is to both enlistees and our nation. Afterwards, a compilation video containing the photos of the veterans related to our NC family was introduced by Gabe Peterson.
| |
Bria Cross then read an honorary poem prior to Isaac Pratt's concluding remarks, where he welcomed NC students to fill out a thank you card to be delivered to the Veteran's Hospital. Thank you to all who attended and gave their attention and time to honor our veterans!
Adaptive Activities
Students in our Designed Instruction Program traveled to Eastern Washington University. Our students participated in PE activities to help college students working on becoming PE Teachers of the future adapt lessons to include all individuals. What’s up Wolfpack! After weeks of constant effort and volunteering, we’ve finally finished. Our Fall Food Drive campaign is over, which means it’s time for the final item count!
We set a goal of 8,000 items, and we got 11,876 items. Wow, that’s amazing! That’s a lot of families that will be fed and it’s all thanks to the community efforts students, parents, grandparents, and anyone gave! Thank you, Grocery Outlet and Yokes Fresh Market, for allowing us to be situated at your locations and raise food for families in need! And thank you Wolfpack, parents, grandparents, and more. We really appreciate your immense help!

NC Undivided, North Central's Gender and Sexuality Alliance, hosted queer teachers and community members to share their coming out experiences with club members. The panel was a great success and many students left feeling more confident about themselves and their ability to live authentically. Hearing these stories, the good and the bad, allowed students to see that they are not alone and feel a sense of shared experience. We laughed, we cried, and we grew in our community. Thank you again to our panel members and please join us for more important conversations in the future!
