Principal's Message

Hello Wolfpack!

I want to thank the parents that came to the Family Advisory Committee (FAC) last night. While we were a small group, I appreciated your feedback.

We went over our School Improvement Plan (SIP) and associated data. The next FAC will be on Thursday, May 23 at 5:30 PM. We will meet in room 103C and will look at our SIP for the 2024 school year and feedback from the Student Advisory Group. Mark your calendars. We would love to have you join us.

The strength of the wolf is in the pack.

Celebrating Our Students

Black History Month Celebration

February is Black History Month. To celebrate Black Heritage, our North Central Shades Club held an event after school on February 27th. It was a lively mix of inspiring presentations, soulful singing and an energetic step performance. While the performances were going on students and families ate delicious soul food prepared by Ms. Paula, one of our students' parents. This event created a strong sense of unity, pride and cultural appreciation in our NC community.

North Central DECA Students Qualify for the DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, CA

North Central Students Gabriella Van Inwegen, Elizabeth Bartlett and Abbigail Muller were recognized for achieving Gold Level Certification for the 2023-2024 school year and will be competing at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California.

A school-based enterprise (SBE) is an entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods and services to meet the needs of the market. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate National Curriculum Standards in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. DECA advisors have utilized this effective educational tool for over four decades to provide their students with realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction, enhance 21st century skill development, and prepare students for college and careers.

“DECA’s School-based Enterprise Certification Program is a rigorous process designed to help DECA members demonstrate their classroom learning in a practical, learning laboratory, and then translate that into meaningful outcomes,” said Christopher Young, CAE, Chief Program Officer at DECA Inc. “These DECA members are practicing important workplace readiness skills while preparing for college and careers.”

Marlee Schoeffler qualified for the DECA International Conference in Professional Selling. In the Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling event, Marlee organized and delivered a sales presentation where she assumed the role of a sales representative for a glamping resort, meeting with the CEO of a company that hopes to host a retreat for its 12 employees and their immediate families. During the meeting, she discussed the setting, accommodations, dining, and activities. Marlee earned a 100 on her presentation, only the second perfect score Mr. Ortega has seen in his 28 years as a DECA advisor.

Sophomore Liam Carter was a state finalist in the Financial Consulting Event. He was recognized for having one of the top five best test scores. The test included 100 questions specific to personal finance. In the Financial Consulting event, participants were required to organize and deliver a consultation for a client. Liam assumed the role of a financial consultant. A small-business client scheduled a meeting with Liam because they wanted to add a peer-to-peer payment platform option for their customers. Liam shared and explained the different peer-to-peer platforms and made a recommendation that would have a positive financial impact.

Freshman Elliott Yegge was a state finalist in the Principles and Marketing event. He was recognized for having one of the top 7 best test scores in the event. The test included 100 questions specific to general marketing topics.

North Central DECA is looking forward to taking these four excellent young women to the International Career Development Conference in late April to compete with the best DECA members from across the globe!
