Principal's Message

Hello Wolfpack!

Winter break is a time for family: traditions, time together, and wonderful food. For your high school student, it's also a gift of time—time where they're not totally focused on school. Here are some things they can do with this time to be in a better place when the new year rolls around.

Rest: Now is the time to catch up on sleep! Students can't make up for a semester of late nights and early mornings, but taking time to rest and practice other self-care routines will help them feel refreshed and ready for next year.

Connect with family: Many students haven't been able to spend time with their extended families recently. Whether it’s their cousin or their grandparents, now is a great time to give them a call or FaceTime. Not only will it bring your student closer to their families, which is always a win, but it might also lead to some unexpected self-reflection.

Give back to the local community: 'Tis the season for giving back. From helping a local food pantry restock their diminished supplies to cleaning up litter from a hiking trail that has seen an uptick in traffic, choosing to pay it forward is never a waste of time.

Explore a new hobby: Encourage your student to pick up a hobby they've been interested in or haven't had time for during the school year. It could be painting, writing, playing a musical instrument, or learning a new skill.

Winter break is not only a time for relaxation but also a chance for personal growth and reflection. Encouraging a balance between rest and productive activities can set high school students up for success when the new year begins.

The strength of the wolf is in the pack.

Attendance

As we head into the new year, a reminder to please call in to the Attendance Line (509) 354-6309 if your student is out for any reason (sick, appointments, etc.). We are prioritizing attendance at school, knowing that students have the greatest success in education when they are present in classes. To aid us in this endeavor is Tracy Suarez, Student Support Specialist. Tracy is checking attendance daily for students who struggle to make it to school and to certain classes, helping to overcome barriers to getting to school and to classes. Tracy serves on our Community Engagement Board and assists with the BECCA process for NC.

We are grateful for your partnership in getting your student(s) to school and encouraging their participation in each and every class! And…calling in when they are absent.

Honoring NC Teacher & Coach - Jay Webber

Jay Webber, NCHS science teacher, will be inducted into the WIBCA Highschool Coaches Hall of Fame for the class of 2023 this coming July. The WIBCA "is a tribute to the incredible people that have given of them selves, their families, and careers, to support the players, and the sport, and are an inspiration for all of us."

We are thrilled, proud, and honored to celebrate Mr. Jay Webber as he is admitted into the Washington State Coaches Hall of Fame.

Here at NC, we know Mr. Webber as a man of character, a compassionate teacher, and a genuinely wonderful human. This honor is being bestowed on a very worthy coach.

Mr. Webber coached for 26 seasons. Here at NC, Mr. Webber was the head boys basketball coach for 18 years. He led 14 teams to postseason tournaments. NC was absent from the state basketball tournament for 55 years before Mr. Webber and his team ended that drought by qualifying for the state championship tournament 4 times. He has been named the GSL coach of the year, received the Spokane Officials Sportsmanship Award, and coached a team of the State Academic Champions.

Mr. Webber’s decades of dedication to mentoring and coaching young people is an incredibly impressive feat, but it is his strong moral compass that is most important. His own players refer to him as a man of character who always treated his players with utmost respect. His long-term service to the North Central basketball program is a testament to his dedication to our community. We are proud to have Mr. Webber as part of our Wolfpack family. Mr. Webber, we are grateful for your years of service, your mentorship, and your good heart. Thank you and congratulations.
