NC – WU Crystallography Internship
A unique opportunity has crystallized from the partnership forming between North Central High School and Whitworth University. The National Science Foundation is supporting a project in which Dr Kraig Wheeler and Dr Diana Schepens are evaluating molecular topology of crystalline solids. In short, by studying the structure and particle interactions, predictions can be made regarding chemical applications.
Are you preparing a college resume? Are you struggling to find an educationally relevant summer job? Two internship opportunities will be available for this summer. These are paid positions with a 4-week duration. Candidates should complete an application, including a resume, teacher nomination, hand-written essay, school transcript. Applications will be available in-person from Mr. Mohn (N233) or Mr. Britton (N225).
The internships will support the research of Wheeler and Schepens within their respective areas of the project. Together, the research looks to discover improvements to materials by analysis of particle interactions. Crystals offer a unique data set providing consistency within nature. Akin to skeletal images when getting imaging, x-rays scatter on samples to give a clear image of atomic structure.
