If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith,
so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,
but have not love, I gain nothing.

Chaplain's Corner
PACS Families,

This last week in Chapel we began a four-part series in the Book of Jonah. As we said to our students, the Book of Jonah is not about a fish, it is about the Gospel. Jonah chapter 1 stresses the seriousness of our sin, yet it highlights the pursuit of God’s love.

As you are together at home, in the car, or around the table, consider using the following questions within your family to help facilitate further discussions within your home about the conversations that began in our chapel service…

  • By citing the fact that there was a ship waiting in the harbor of Joppa ready to take Jonah in the exact opposite direction (Tarshish) that God had called him to go (Nineveh), we talked about the fact that Satan will always provide opportunities for us to be disobedient to God. What are some specific ways that you have seen Satan provide opportunities for you to be disobedient to God? How do combat and fight against those temptations?

  • We discussed that the great fish that God appointed to swallow Jonah was evidence of God’s mercy and wrath.

  1. GOD’S MERCY: “Jonah, I will go to unimaginable lengths to chase you down, to give you another chance, to redeem your mistakes, and to give your life a purpose and mission that will literally impact eternity.”
  2. “GOD’S WRATH: “Jonah, your act of disobedience cannot go unaddressed…if you refuse to turn back to Me, you will be destroyed by the consequences of your choices.”
  3. God gave Jonah the choice of which attribute of God he wanted to embrace: mercy or wrath.
  4. What does it say about God that He would give us that choice?

  • How does it make you feel to know that you can never outrun the presence of God?
Together,
Ben Wallis
Director of Spiritual Life

From Our Head of School
Dear Parents:

We have been blessed to have Mr. Ben Wallis as our Director of Spiritual Life at PACS these past three years, and our school’s spiritual strength has increased significantly as a direct result of his ministry to our students and faculty. Under his leadership, major improvements to our chapel program, spiritual retreats, Bible curriculum, faculty devotion program, and more have been made.

Ben has now been called to return to full time local church ministry, and he will start his new associate pastorate as we begin to conclude this school year. Please click on the link below to read a special letter from Ben.
