But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.

PACS Families,

This past week, we have most definitely entered into our Spiritual Retreat Season at PACS…and we’ve already seen God do some absolutely amazing things in the lives of our students. (On the 11th/12th Grade Retreat in Toccoa, 1 student gave his life to Christ, and 7 students were baptized!).

As God has always been faithful, it is incredible that we are seeing our students realize and rely upon His faithfulness, which, in turn, is increasing our anticipation of God’s continual movement in and through our school and community.

One common theme that we are focusing on with our 6th-12th grade students on these Spiritual Retreats is, “Listening to God is Really a Heart Issue.” In Mark 4, Jesus’s first parable is all about the condition of our hearts. By using the metaphor of soil, Jesus describes four types of soil/hearts:

  • Hard—not responsive or interested in hearing the Word of God

  • Shallow—initially receptive to the Word of God, but because emotion is the primary driver, no deep “faith roots” exist…so when life gets tough, the things of God and the Word of God are rarely if ever even considered

  • Cluttered—initially receptive to the Word of God, but someone or something else is also planted in this person’s heart…and because we cannot serve two masters, the things of God get crowded out over time

  • Good—receptive to the Word of God, growing in the Word of God, and bearing fruit that is described in the Word of God

[READ Mark 4:1-20]

The following are two questions that would be great conversations within your family:

  • (SELF-REFLECTION) Being honest with myself about myself, which of the 4 types of soil best describes the condition of my heart?

  • (PARENTS TO STUDENT) Being honest with yourself about yourself, which of the 4 types of soil best describes the condition of your heart?

Spend time in prayer this week asking God to cultivate your heart, to “pull any weeds” that may exist in your life and to use your life to “bear much fruit” for His name, His glory, and His Kingdom.

Please let us know if there are any additional ways that we may be able to serve you and serve alongside you!
