Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down,
his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. . . "

PACS Families,
In chapters 5, 6, and 7 in the Book of Matthew, we have recorded for us Jesus’s most famous sermon…The Sermon on the Mount. Jesus begins this sermon by giving both the context and definition of God’s blessings toward us...popularly known as The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-16).
This past week in Chapel, we began our semester-long series called “BLESSED.” Throughout this series, we will be focusing on the truth that even though many times we think of God’s blessings in terms of what He does for us, in reality, God’s blessings are all about what He does through us.
The following are questions, that would be great conversations within your family:
[READ Matthew 5:1-3]
- What does Jesus mean when He talks about being “poor in spirit”?
- Most of the time, the word “poor” does not describe something desirable (financially, quality, etc.), so why should we actually desire to be “poor in spirit”?
- How does the understanding that God gives us a choice to accept Him or reject Him actually prove His love for us?
Please let us know if there are any additional ways that we may be able to serve you and serve alongside you!
