and The Coalition Application
. Some schools, like the University of California schools
, use their own application portal and essay questions. Some schools, like Washington State University, do not require an essay under most circumstances. Summer Financial Aid Research
Out-of-pocket costs are an important factor when choosing a college for many. Summer is a great time for families to discuss what is affordable
. While doing college research, make sure to check out the Net Price Calculators required on every college website for an estimate of costs. Scrutinize target college websites for merit aid opportunities and create a scholarship profile for outside scholarships on a website like Washboard
Never pay to apply for a scholarship or to have access to a scholarship database. Some scams are obvious
, others are sneaky. Be wary of offers cloaked in accolades (“Congratulations on your selection for membership in the NSHSS Honor Society”) or exclusive memberships (“Join our membership of high achieving students!) When in doubt, ask Mrs. McGuigan (firstname.lastname@example.org
) in the EHS College and Career Center.
