Happy Pride Month! “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States” (Library of Congress). Though Pride has been celebrated since the 1970’s, this June President Biden officially proclaimed June LGBTQ Pride Month and “call(ed) upon the people of the United States to recognize the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community, to celebrate the great diversity of the American people, and to wave their flags of pride high.” At Eastlake our Pride Club created a series of lessons delivered during Humanities classes covering the History of Pride, Sexuality and Gender Identity, Intervening to stop Homophobic and Transphobic language, and Allyship. In all of the lessons students engaged with their peers to examine how far we have come as a nation and grapple with how far we still have to go to ensure and safeguard the rights and humanity of the LGBTQ community. This Pride month we invite our community to do the same:

SAT at Eastlake Next Year

Our school will be a testing site for the SAT in a few months. We know parents of juniors have not found many options this year, with testing sites closing because of COVID restrictions. We anticipate fewer COVID restrictions in the future and are applying to become a testing site as a support for these students who have not been able to take this test and who will be approaching college application deadlines. We will offer the SAT on one or more dates in late summer or early fall. We will send an email to parents of current juniors during the summer with detailed information so interested parents can register their students.

Many universities have changed their application requirements. Some no longer look at SAT or ACT scores. Many more changed from requiring a test to making them optional. A few universities still do require the SAT or ACT. As your college search begins to narrow, you should check and confirm each school’s application requirements.
